I have a verrryy close gf thinking of moving here, Now the spas are way different and I mean Different lol then out west so she is concerned about this. What would be a better route to go upon her relocation...Is independent a better route to go, or is an Mp???? If she is concerned about restrictions...er...restricting her then go independent. But, if she wants the security and company of having others around then the spa is the way to go! If she feels comfortable working in spa in the east, she will then be able to cultivate a good name for herself in effort to fly on here on as an Indy. Then after getting well know consider moving on as an indy, but being indy can have some major drawbacks. If you are not a well organized or focused person, it can turn in to a disaster when having to do it all yourself. Seen if happen numerous times in the past. Also get to figure out the differences between Ottawa and West. If it doesn't work out she hasn't made any investment. Later once she's established a reputation and some regular clientele then go independent. It may be easier, like many others have said, to start in a Spa... less overhead and expenses BUT it will be reputation that will be important... There are many examples of ladies whom, starting in a Spa, have gone on to having a dedicated following when they have gone Indy... and there are many examples of ladies whom, for their own reason, have gained a following and remained working at Spas. You don't have to worry about rent, supplies, screening customers etc etc You have to worry about finding someone to cover for your shift if you get sick or need a day off unexpectedly. Going indy you have WAY more freedom and are able to book your time according to your life...if you have kids, a S/O, parties up coming, a death in the family etc. However the above things you don't have to worry about...you will here (obv) It really depends on what she feels best for her. If she's never been in the business before and wishes to go indy she will definetly need to speak with other independant ladies before starting up to get every angle she needs to cover before inventing herself. TRUE, the SPA owners know that, meanwhile they get the benefit of the business and the lady gathers regulars. Most of us have had jobs to stay for a few years then move on to something else with with more responsibility and greater challenges. I'm still curious, what's so different about spas out west? And what part of the west? I've been to some places in Vancouver, and they didn't seem all that different than here, except in price. The area out West is oil rich with salaries and cost of living go hand in hand.
