Cerb made Law and Order SVU slightly less fun to watch

I was watching the season finale last night of SVU, and without giving any spoilers (this was in the short preview of the show), it was about two competing escort agencies getting their angry on. It's Hollywood, don't care about what story they write, just make it enjoyable.

 

During the program, they showed the inside of one of the escort agencies, and my mind was full of "WTF?!?"

 

To give you a visual picture, a bunch of scantily clad women, one stereotypical boss with a gold chain necklace, not enough buttons on his shirt, and a used car salesman demeanor. And the obligatory "Is this how you imagined your life?" questions with a look of regret from the SP.

 

I know there is sex slavery, right here in Canada. And I hope those women (and men) subjugated to rape get free while those who put them there get everything they deserve ten fold. But this was such an over the top portrayal, I started to see why this industry has such an uphill battle to be seen as legitimate.

I watched it last night too..it pisses me off that so many shows portrait us the same way. Criminal minds is another..2 of my favorite shows. I wish they could see what they are doing to us. Then again there are places like that I guess. I miss Charlie from 2 and a half men.. lol At least he respected us..lol

The sex slavery industry in Canada is real but I doubt the numbers that are consistently used in the media when it comes to foreign trafficking. My genuine concern still revolves around young Canadian girls and their introduction to this world by pimps. I have maintained for years that a woman shouldn't get involved in this until she truly knows herself and can make a proper adult decision.

Hollywood does no "walk of life" justice when it comes to TV and most movies are such nonsense which is why I don't have cable and only watch DVDs that come highly recommended. The constant misrepresentation of our industry is too agravating to even begin to rant about...

I didn't see last nights episode of SVU but I have seen other shows and movies that have depicted the industry in the same light and I can't say I'm a fan of it either. I'm not saying Hollywood has to go totally all rosey on the industry but they should at least try to be more balanced when depicting it and not just show the worst aspects of it. The Shield is another show that I can think of that hasn't exactly shown the industry in the best light, although I do enjoy the show. The only show I can think of that actually depicted the industry in a somewhat better light, although I've only caught bits and pieces of it, was secret diary of a call girl.

 

I know human trafficking and sex slavery goes on here, there was bust on a human trafficking ring not too long ago and it sickens me that this stuff still happens in Canada. I just hope, like Piano said, that those who are victims of these crimes get the help they desperately need and those that committing these crimes are nailed to the walls. The politicians should be spending more time making better laws or providing police with the tools they need to nail the traffickers/slavers than by appealing laws that nobody wants in the first place and make it unsafe for those involved.

I didn't see that one, but I think that the CSI Las Vegas one did a fairly interesting take on a brothel in Nevada for a show. It looked like the characters came right off of Cathouse, so for reality, it was pretty darn good.

 

Jennifer Love Hewitt did a movie based on a true story, The Client List (soccer mom gets a job at a massage parlour and finds out she's got a knack for it lol), and now they apparently turned it into an actual series.

 

 

A long time ago I used to help edit people's novels, so I know how books get submitted to publishers. I have only a handful of times seen a movie or TV show have a proper manuscript prop. Almost without exception they use a standard script as a prop, which might be 120 pages, is bound and has a cover. Most manuscripts are 250-400 loose pages, so either a very large envelope or box would be the most likely container. I always wonder, if the main character or important character in the story is supposed to be a writer, then why doesnt anyone producing this take the time to get the correct props?

 

So if they can't manage to do something so simple and easy to check, I have no trouble believing they cannot possibly get something as complex as sp/client, agency, mps or the idea that there are a ton of service providers out there who never do more than a hj.

I'm sure they've got a computer program that can write cop show episodes by now. Most entertainment deals in instantly recognizeable stereotypes, and a weekly formula cop show probably deals exclusively in stereotypes.

Despite the stereotypes, it was a pretty good episode, especially the "The Godfather-type" cliffhanger ending.

10 + years ago, when I first started out, I worked for angencies....just want to be clear...none of the agencies are around now....

 

 

The agencies I worked for were freaking horrible...back in the day, it was a little bit harder to be indy...

 

Anyways, there were calls that I would litterally have to run out of...once, just in my lingerie...lol....running up to the drivers car screaming to let me in...crazy stuff...the agency never really cared if the guys were sane or not, it was alllllllll about the money....they did not give a flying eff if you were sick, family emergencies...whatever...if you did not do the call, you were out of a job..plain & simple..

 

One agency owner really tried to tell me that we had to sleep together first......so he could tell the guys firsthand "what the merchandise was really like" freaking creepo!!!

 

The last agency I worked for, and would go back to in a minute if it opened again was "CHARLIES ANGELS"

 

The owner was the most proffesional business woman via this bussiness that I have ever met....she ran her business...like a BUSINESS!!!! She was the queen of the yellow page ads..85% of them were hers ;)

 

You had to work 40 hrs per week, but ....I was never forced to take calls, we always had a choice, it envolved us calling the client, and we would book our own calls, at our own rate ;)

 

We had to dish out 70 for the half hour & 100 for the hour, this included our driver too....I really, really had a lot of respect for this lady and how she ran her business...she sold it after running it for 17 yrs :)

 

All this to say, IMO there is a higher percentage of crappy agency owners rather than good ones, so when and if you do find an agency that is great to work..appreciate it & spread the word :)
