which is the most economical but competent on-site tech company in Ottawa?

Not a fan of tech support unless you really have to I just think its a rip off and you can figure out the problems yourself.

 

If its a PC problem you should back up everything, get your windows key and reinstall windows.

I usually do all computer related tasks myself but recommend BestBuy's GeekSquad if you need help for installation or technical issues.

 

Cheaper to bring the computer in-store but they will come to your home/office for a premium.

Not from Ottawa so i am afraid I cannot help, but I will warn you to stay away from the big chains. Very especially Best Buy. Search the consumerist website for Geek Squad if you want to know why and spend a few hours being horrified.

 

Asking for recommendations is a good thing as most tech support is overpriced.

 

xBen: Meg strikes me as someone who could figure it out by searching the web, or asking on Usenet, but she may not have the time or like many people the confidence that she could.

Trust me there are people who could not solve their issue by searching the web because they just do not know what to look for. Also, what if it is a serious hardware issue? Google isn't going to tell you the power unit is messed up.

 

I do agree almost all tech support is overpriced. My suggestion would be for Meg to do what she did -ask for suggestions for a good place for it.
