More than 40 parking sign poles have been destroyed by prostitutes in south Auckland who are using them as dancing poles.

 

The revelation comes in a booklet put out by the Auckland Council asking for legislation to control street prostitution.

 

Hunters Corner and central Papatoetoe business district manager Donna Lee says the poles are part of their soliciting equipment.

 

She says some prostitutes are big, strong people and often snap the poles.

 

Ms Lee says business people don't complain anymore but just get on with cleaning up their properties after the prostitutes have been there.

 

She says that includes condoms, alcohol, other drugs and defecation.
