Guest biz2000 Report post Posted August 26, 2012 Hi Guys, I'm a newbie to the non-therapeutic massage offerings, very interested, but have a few questions: -I've been having RMT massages for years now (desk work). Can I consider a massage with an MA the same relief? i.e. can the massage aspect be just as good as, say, a sports massage? -I think I would be conformable with going to a spa or studio, but hotels seem to be iffy to me. Is it common that MAs book a hotel for a day? By common, I mean is it the norm and I shouldn't worry? -I've read on up on tipping etiquette. When I am at a spa - do I also tip the house? -I really have a thing about sharing towels (like, on the table - especially the face). Are the towels always fresh, or should I bring my own just to be sure. Thank you all!

I read that some of the massages are quite relaxing. A good start to is to regularly check the advertisements and search the ladies in the recommendations. The ladies tend to provide an overview of the experience they offer. We're lucky to have a few MAs in Ottawa who see guests in their private residence. I don't recall seeing the ad of a MA working out of a hotel... I can't help you with the massage parlor questions, I have never been to one. Good luck :)
herelookin 3510 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 I can't help you with the massage parlor questions, I have never been to one. Well then I can help here... I only go for massages. I've been having RMT massages for years now (desk work). Can I consider a massage with an MA the same relief? i.e. can the massage aspect be just as good as, say, a sports massage? Sometimes yes and sometimes no... BUT there are some (a few) that have had RMT training BUT keep that business side seperate from their "erotic" massage... you get the best of both worlds. Is it common that MAs book a hotel for a day? By common, I mean is it the norm and I shouldn't worry? Some "indys" do and, dependent on the hotel and area, you should feel safe. One of my all-time favourites went indy for awhile and used to book in a couple of hotels and I followed her to them... never did I feel that I should worry about my safety. When I am at a spa - do I also tip the house? There is a "door fee" and then there is "tipping" which covers the cost of... after that there's no need to tip further unless you want to. Some feel the need to... I personally don't but I do return quite often as repeat business. Are the towels always fresh Again this would really depend on the spa BUT... I have NEVER felt the need to bring my own towel... and I have been to some of the less "nice" spas here in the city. Normally you'll see the ladies changing the towels at the end of your session as a time-saver for them. With one regular spot we have had discussion of laundry saving tips because of the amount of washing that is involved at the spa. Hope this helps some... Go have a good time... relax and enjoy the massage!

In general, therapeutic massage and relaxation massage are two totally different things. I myself happen to like both, but go to different providers for each. Like you wouldn't drive an SUV if you want to drive a sports car or vice versa! Good luck with the search!
whiteman 14028 Report post Posted August 27, 2012 Hi Guys, I'm a newbie to the non-therapeutic massage offerings, very interested, but have a few questions: -I've been having RMT massages for years now (desk work). Can I consider a massage with an MA the same relief? i.e. can the massage aspect be just as good as, say, a sports massage? In general, no, but there are a few MA's who you could say are pretty close to RMT-quality, but without calling themselves RMT's. You also will not get any insurance coverage from them. Look up Kelly from Cambridge, or Jude Masso, as a couple of examples. Kelly has had RMT-like training from China, but she still offers the relaxation options, which RMT's are not allowed to offer. Since she offers them, she can't call herself RMT. -I think I would be conformable with going to a spa or studio, but hotels seem to be iffy to me. Is it common that MAs book a hotel for a day? By common, I mean is it the norm and I shouldn't worry? No, it's not unusual, but it's also not common. Usually they are offered from a hotel when the MA hasn't yet found a location to setup a permanent headquarters, or if the MA is travelling through town. -I've read on up on tipping etiquette. When I am at a spa - do I also tip the house?Yes, but usually the independent MA will likely tell you exactly how to bring ahead of time, there aren't any bashful "discuss privately in the room with your attendant" type of deals as there are with spas. -I really have a thing about sharing towels (like, on the table - especially the face). Are the towels always fresh, or should I bring my own just to be sure.Yes, of course.
