A enuch is a man that has had his external geneitilia surgically removed. In some cultures only the testicles are removed, while in others the penis was cut off as well. This was common in Imperial China; also common in the courts of Assyria, Sumeria, Egypt, Persia and Turkey. This was done so the male could work as a harem attendant or other court functionary.
