redstorm 121 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Hello, I am planning to visit Ottawa next week for a special rendezvous. I am a Starwood Preferred Guest member. I saw that there are two Sheraton properties in Ottawa, the Westin and Sheraton. Does anyone know the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. I plan on arriving in Ottawa by train so which one would be closer and would have better amenities. Thanks for your help. Redstorm
Seymour 3970 Report post Posted May 5, 2009 The Westin requires a card to ride the elevators after a certain time (10:00pm rings a bell). So be prepared to plan around that, if you're staying there. Other than that both are great places.
spud271 47779 Report post Posted May 5, 2009 Both are very good hotels, but as previously said, the card required after 10:00pm can be a pain.
d*mm*y 887 Report post Posted May 5, 2009 Four Points Sheraton in Hull is also not bad and quite convenient may have much better rates.
redstorm 121 Report post Posted May 5, 2009 Thanks everyone for their insight. It seems something is going on in the Nation's captial on the days I am looking at. Both seem nice, the Westin is in a nicer location but the Sheraton has a lounge Does anyone know how close the Train station is to these properties or downtown in general? If anyone has any questions about the Sheraton properties in Montreal or Toronto please let me know, I am an expert on them. Have a good one. d*mm*y 887 Report post Posted May 5, 2009 The train station is 5km from both hotels, and about 7 km to the one in hull.

redstorm 121 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 Thanks everyone for their help. I'll be arriving late at night, so I guess I'll miss out on the touristy stuff. Hopefully I can catch some of the sites in the morning before my fun. Have a good night.
slurp 7020 Report post Posted May 9, 2009 Since you mentioned the lounge at one place you might want to know that while the Westin doesn't have a lounge the Byward Market is a block away with lots of nightlife. You'd also be able to walk to Parliament Hill and the westin is right beside the canal. If the tourist thing is part of what you want to do I think you'd want the Westin. And lack of lounge is a non-issue with both the market area and Elgin Street a short walk. There used to be a cougar lounge in the Westin, is that closed now? The 10pm card thing shouldn't be an issue if you're only seeing one friend. Have fun, you shouldn't be bored.
redstorm 121 Report post Posted May 9, 2009 Thanks again Slurp. I wish I could stay a bit longer in Ottawa instead of the one day. I checked the website and yes, the Westin has no lounge. Thanks for the tip about the Byward Market, hope to check it out on my night. Then the morning after, I will hopefully walk around and soak up the sites. Maybe I'll come back to Ottawa on my return home. Have a good weekend Redstorm
