In A Perfect World

Recommended Posts

If there were a "perfect world" for a service provider, what would it be like?

Are you constantly wishing products, services, or venues that would make your life easier were available?

Is there a socio-political lobsidedness with respect to service providers that you believe can be righted?

Is there an association for service providers in Thunder Bay?

If so, how could it be better?

If not, do you think there should be?

Please be as detailed and imaginative as your heart desires and time permits. Can't wait to read the responses.

A perfect world in my eyes would constitute a service provider free from any fear of danger, weirdos, or douchebaggery.

Well, that would go for anyone, but staying on point, I think SPs have a higher risk happening on one or all of the above.

The closest thing to a SP association I know of is here, CERB. The SP section allows us to share bad date info and also collaborate on work projects such as tours or duo services. I think that as TBay is a smaller city a publicly known association would draw too much negative repercussions. I get a lot of prank callers trying to find where I work out of, and even a wife or two wanting to know what's up.. I already have to screen for safety, theres only so much we can do to protect ourselves, and anonymity is our best defense. Legit clients are not who we have to worry about.

I know for myself, particularly since the recent violent physical attack on an Aboriginal woman has raised personal safety concerns for me as a provider. If those two can't find other unsuspecting individuals out in public they might decide to start calling escorts and doing the same as them. The majority of local providers here are First Nations. I hope they don't figure that out, because we are already at a disadvantage because the popular belief is that society doesn't care as much if an escort is violated (even less for an Aboriginal girl, unfortunately) as they would if it were a Caucasian wife and mother of three, or a white woman in her twenties. you can read about the incident here. If those two heathens tried to pose as a client. It could just as easily be any of us next. I pray they are caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law. I think they should be punished by the same medieval practices as they treated that survivor to.

On the plus side, an association could be a great place to network, share ideas, and maybe even get new clients. I would like to see a 'passion party' type of business for escorts here in town. A private place to purchase work materials would be so much more comfortable than going to exxxtacy video for the perv to check out our asses and ask for our id, even though we look the age of majority. The fact is though, that there is a stigma. Also, I doubt the majority would be happy to see an escort association when there are so many other causes that don't get the exposure they deserve. I think the general public would rather see an association for the homeless, or the underprivileged youth of our community or any number of others, the list goes on. Myself, I would prefer to see those kinds of associations as well.

I believe that if the community saw that all the at risk population groups currently ignored were all of a sudden forming Associations, then they would be much more willing to accept an escorts association here.

my humble opinion

I guess such an association would not help First Nations providers?

I have this crazy fantasy about service providers making a difference in many disinfranchised groups if they were somehow able to come together, organize, and leverage some of that collective economic clout that would accrue as a result of coming together.

But these views may be overly simplistic, as I am only gaining an introduction to all aspects of this lifestyle at this point.

What happened to that young woman is a tragedy and like you, I hope the perp is brought to justice.

I agree that it would be great if there were places that where service providers could get supplies and feel more comfortable doing it.

I have been thinking that it might be interesting to get involved in the business from that angle.

Thanks for your response.

An association doesn't have to be public! It can be a very private group that meets, exchanges bad date information and offers support to each other. All it takes is one person willing to organize it. I belong to a private association of Divas. It's a loosely organized group of single old broads that get together regularly to exchange complaints, celebrate successes and bounce business ideas off of each other. We even have a membership ring that we all wear and group of younger D.I.Ts (Divas in Training) that are earning their "Diva" status. We don't have bylaws or rules except one. You can't miss a meeting unless you are dead. Literally.

So the next question is...

Who is going to step up to the plate up there, make a few phone calls and pick a place to have a coffee? If it's all inclusive, it doesn't matter the race as it will help everyone involved. Once it's established you can drag in the touring girls that pop in up their for their take on the world as they know it. I know if I ever made it up there, I would go for a coffee...

I would be willing to organize such a meeting between SP's.

I think there is safety in the information to be shared. And also believe it would be good from a mental health position.

Being an SP is often lonely if you live a double life like so many of us do.

We have few to vent to and none who understand.

If anyone is interested in this...message me i will make some arrangements. :)

There is so much untapped knowledge here. I just know it, reading these responses.

I'm not in Tbay yet, but I've been communicating with another gold mine of beauty, experience, and insight in PMs.

The Diva society is awesome. Inspiring.

Jade, thanks for your willingness to initiate this. I'll be sending you a PM so that I can get on the bandwagon sometime today.

These are great responses. Thanks everyone!

I see no reason why it wouldn't! I did not mean to insinuate that it would be ethnically exclusive to one race of people. My concern was that an association (being unaware that associations can be private, as Cat has since informed) would put us, who rely on anonymity and discretion for safety and protection from social stigma, in a vulnerable position.

My thoughts were that including myself in an association might do more harm than good, were it public knowledge that such an association existed.

Now that I know more, I imagine an association could benefit some of the local escorts. Though I am curious, what assistance or benefits would an association realistically provide? And would the association be able to exist without giving up our secret identities to all other working girls? I can't have that many people know who I am in a city this size..

What about a phone tree or private social group here instead of face to face meetings? I know for myself, I am often unsure about letting other providers know if I have had or heard of a bad date to avoid, because the truth is that most girls here don't take kindly or are uncomfortable with other girls calling their numbers, no matter what the reason. And most agencies pay no mind to bad date info anyway.

I forgot to mention that Superior Points in town gives free supplies anonymously and discreetly. I have always used them and never ever had any problems. I highly recommend accessing their services. Specialty supplies are where the problems arise, for me at least. like with the video store I spoke of last post.

Hi Sugar,

I don't know what benefits an association could realistically provide at this time. I have only inspiration and ideas.

I'm going to research an association in Toronto and get back to you on what they are actually accomplishing, besides finding an audience for their rhetoric from time to time.

I can tell you that I'm sick and tired of people who make a big production of how helpful/useful they/they're organizations are, and it turns out, in the end, they've taken more for you while they've managed to be absolutely no help whatsover. It leaves me feeling an outraged combination of fuming comtempt and preverse admiration at their sheer genius for running this scam - and to add insult to injury, often under 'respectabe' auspices.

Anyway, I'm going to research my own question a little more than come back with some more ideas on how an association could actually do some real good for all its members, and not be some kind of "feel good do nothing, but get everything" scam that everyone else seems to be running.

I wouldn't buy anything from an adult store that asks for your id. From what your buying and your good looks you could be opening yourself up to a stalker.

which is exactly why I suggest staying away from EXXXtacy video! it is too vulnerable a position to put oneself in, especially as a SP b/c there is still widespread belief that we are somehow 'meant' for mistreatment.

In my perfect world for a service provider, sex work would be valued as a legitimate job that takes skill, intuition and all kinds of smarts in order to succeed. Everyone would be able to work safely wherever and however they wanted, as long as they weren't harming others. All reasons for deciding to enter the industry would be considered valid (as long as it's a fully consensual decision, obviously), and anyone who wanted to leave the industry, for whatever reason would be fully supported in doing so and moving on.

Elementary school teachers wouldn't be fired because of one naked picture of them found on the internet from 20 years ago. No one would be considered a bad mother/lover/partner/friend/person because they are a sex worker. People wouldn't be labeled as sex offenders because they enjoy giving and receiving pleasure for money, and clients wouldn't be made to feel like bad people for valuing a service and the service providers so much that they believe they're worth paying for.

I'm sure a giant canopy bed and a never-ending collection of red lace underwear would be nice too, but anything more than what's above just seems like icing on the cake to me...
