The Mustang Ranch is closed now, and I can't say what the Bunny Ranch is like, but working in Nevada in general doesn't sound like a good time. I'm not sure what's changed since the book was printed (in 2001), but according to the book, ladies working at the Ranch were required to register with police and were subject to curfews and restricted from certain areas. Also, the working girls were confined to the premises of the Ranch (except for outdates with clients) for the duration of their stay, which could range from days to weeks, depending on their financial goals. And their actions within the brothel were strictly controlled as well (each room had an intercom system so that owners could eavesdrop on the women's negotiations to make sure they didn't steal money from the house, or trade sex for drugs).
