CBC Radio One Interview

Recommended Posts

I have to sadly admit that having gone to bed at about 5am the other night my alarm sadly did not wake me in the morning and I missed the show.

I'm having lots of trouble opening anita's link of the archived episode...anyone have any pointers? I feel like a fruitcake for missing it :-(

ok false alarm...finally managed to download RealPlayer to hear the interview.

I'm beaming at you (erin) and Nico! GREAT on-the-fly answers! no nervousness detected WHATSOEVER! an interview like that makes me so proud to be a part of what POWER stands for. I only hope that enough early listeners had their eyes opened to the points mentioned. such as the plight of the workers of today and that we should be regarded as any worker in any industry. The victimization definitely has to grind to a halt and the public and police system needs to get a true grasp that we should be regarded as any hard working civilian.

hats off to you Erin! we will high five on sunday!

Hi Erin,

I just had a chance to listen to your interview on CBC, and I have to say, well done. You both presented yourself very professionally and should be very proud.

Don't know if this is the best thread for this post, but is relevant to the power struggle !

Here are links to SCAN and Yasir Naqvi MPP.

YN says " entrenched crime, such as......prostitution.....I would also like to hear your views on this legislation, so please feel free to write to me or email your thoughts and suggestions. I welcome your input!"

Does he know something I don't ?

I think he shall hear from me.

Mr. Naqvi is trying to get himself re-elected by pandering to those people in the Hintonburg section of his provincial riding who have a problem with crack houses. I don't blame the people in Hintonburg. I wouldn't want to live next to a crack house either.

But Mr. Naqvi is trying to hit a fly with a sledge-hammer. He's proposed a "neighbour-snitch" law that's kind of reminiscent of the neighbourhood patrol groups in Communist China.

So, for example, if your neighbour thinks you have too many men going into your apartment, they can file an anonymous complaint and try to have your evicted for operating a common bawdy house - with a good chance of success - and little chance of due process on your part. You don't have to be convicted on any Criminal Code offense. The witch-hunters just have to agree with the snitch. And you're gone.

You didn't sound nervous at all.

Thanks for doing this for the community :)

Just listened to it Erin, great job and very brave to put yourself out there in the public eye! We talk a lot on these boards about respect and proper treatment and you are out there trying to actually get that for you and your contemporaries...I tip my hat to that as it takes a great person to try and make a difference.

Really, again, thanks to everyone who listened and all the positive comments and thoughts! It means a lot to me. :) Being a voice for sex workers and making changes (even small ones) in the way people view us is something I am very passionate about.

xoxo

Hats off to you Erin and the rest of the organizers of POWER. I thought you both did a great job.

To me this was a great step not so much from just the content of the interview but because it established POWER as a group the media can contact for comment in the future. I also felt the interviewer treated both of you and POWER with respect. Keep up the great work!

Thanks also to all the other ladies here that are supporting and part of POWER.

Enjoy your party tonight!

You can also be evicted based on the anonymous complaint without a hearing before the Landlord and Tenant Board.

We've been protesting this legislation since it was proposed, as it's basically a veil to weed out prostitutes and drug dealers.
