   Just watched "Space Jam: A New Legacy" and it's not great. Not horrible, but shockingly uncreative.

if you seen the original 1996 movie, "Ready Player One", "Tron" and "The Lego Movie", you know the entire story.

   It's about LeBron James trying to bond with his son. But the story is overshadowed by Warner Bros throwing all their intellectual properties at the screen in the hope of a few chuckles. Feels more like a bad parody. Laughs and surprises are far apart and just reminds you how good the first movie was.

   I kind of recommend out of curiosity or just want to keep kids busy. But not even sure if will achieve that goal.

   Fine but nothing more.

   Just watched "The Suicide Squad". A sequel/reboot(works both way) to the 2016 "Suicide Squad".

  A far more coherent movie with a tone that matches the colorful characters. This time directed and written by James Gunn, mostly known for "The Guardians of the Galaxy" movies with an R-Rated/14A for gore, violence, language and some brief nudity.

  Not sure if due to "super-hero fatigue", but I like without really really loving it. We see attempts to break out from the average DC movie template, but still need improvements. If released a decade ago, this would have been amazing. But after "Deadpool" and "The Guardians of the Galaxy", it doesn't feel as fresh or creative as it should be.

  It's certainly one of the best DC movie in the last years, but not quite the best or most creative adaptation.

   Just came back from watching "No Time To Die". Been a year since I last stepped foot in a movie theater.

   The Daniel Craig era of Bond was a roller coaster. "Casino Royale" was a great modern take on the franchise, "Quantum of Solace" a "meh", "Skyfall" a masterpiece and "Spectre" a disappointment.

    Had low expectations after hearing how the first cut of the movie was poorly received by test audiences and the 2h 43min runtime was a concern. But this was definitely a solid Bond movie. The first action scene got my worry as "shaky cam" in IMAX is not pleasant to watch, but it got much better from there. Without going into spoilers, it gave a satisfying end to the 5 movies story arc and felt like classic Bond.

    I recommend.

Seen "Dune" in IMAX and it's pretty good.

Before going further, let's mention the "elephant in the room". The actual title is "Dune: Part One", something never mentioned on the posters and trailers. After seeing this, I thought they divided the movie in two. But no, they only filmed the first half and Warner Bros still hasn't greenlit the sequel. I suppose the studio is still cautious after the "Justice League" movie debacle.

As for the movie itself, the story is at the same time simple and complicated. I never read the books, but the 1984 movie is still a guilty pleasure. It's a prophesy story mixed with a war for the control of a spice planet with giant sandworms. Even if the space politics are confusing, it's still entertaining and pleasant to watch on the big screen.

Hopefully they won't wait too long to work on "Part Two".

Last weekend I watched "Deep water" with Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas.  You might remember her from "knock knock" and "Blade runner 2049" and like those 2 movies you do get to see her topless showing off her perfect breasts and nipples.  In this movie she is a young mother married to a rich 50 something guy(Ben Affleck) and she cheats on him with younger guys, her husband knows and sees her doing this and doesn't react like anyone else would but funny enough those young guys disappear.  They are always invited over for a meal and/or parties and her husband pretends like he doesn't care...but.

  Recently watched "Top Gun: Maverick".

I liked the movie, but got some things to say. 

    The first is the unusual high Rotten Tomatoes score of 97% for critics and 99% for audience. It's good, but not "Best Picture" material. Biggest problem is the uncreative screenplay. On top of being a sequel to the 1986 movie, the story shares elements from "The Right Stuff" (1983), "Iron Eagle 2" (1988), "Stealth" (2005) and a bit of "Star Wars" (1977). Everything is set up and telegraphed, removing any tension. And like the original movie, the closest thing to an antagonist/villain is our titular main character by being reckless. Everyone judging and confronting him are completely right to do so. 

    But what makes this movie work, is the combination of nostalgia and the fact the movie constantly points out the ridiculousness of the main character and everything else that wouldn't make sense in real life. Not a parody or deconstruction, but doesn't take itself seriously. It does provide an effective emotional moment (not gonna spoil it) before engaging in the insane third act.

     Worth seeing on the big screen while you can. And if wondering about gay undertones and implied bromances. Yes it does, but not quite on the nose like the first movie was.

Watched this recently as well and the flight scenes were awesome on the big screen.  My only complaint was that for a movie released in 2022 (delayed a bit due to COVID), they couldn't come up with some other excuse not to use the F-35 (re: GPS).  I get that a lot of the info was likely classified, but it would've been nice to see more footage of these next-gen fighter jets.

Great movie though, and my partner enjoyed it as well, even though they haven't watched the original.

     Recently watched two movies.  The first "Black Adam". It's fine. It's not too long and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is likable enough to make it fun.  But in term of story, it's nothing new and many scenes look ripped off from random Marvel movies.

     Second, "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story". If you like the musical comedy and artistic style of Weird Al, you'll enjoy that fun "biopic". It's a parody of the genre starring Daniel Radcliffe in the title role. The movie is clear jab at "Bohemian Rhapsody" for its historical inaccuracies and for downplaying Freddie Mercury's eccentric lifestyle.

      It's not quite as wacky as "UHF"(1989), but a nice fun movie with a surprising cast and cameos.

I know I'm late on this one but I recently watched the movie Equilibrium and I actually scared the person I watched it with because I kept commenting that I liked it better in the beginning before he stopped taking his shot. Ha!! But it just seemed so orderly. Also I really love the show Vikings but who doesn't?

    Recently seen "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and it's quite good.

   But the tone is much different from the first two movies. It contains the same humor and great character moments, but the darker moments are the main part of the story. It never goes overboard in term of gore and violence, but it does expect the audience to grow up since the first movie was released in 2014. It pulls hard on heartstrings and might not be recommended for kids under ten.

    Good conclusion to the trilogy.
