Sweet Emily J 172062 Report post Posted February 20, 2013 Woman who weighs 250 pounds is denied massage by spa owner who said she is 'too fat' and 'will break the table'... one day after she completed a half-marathon http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2281514/Woman-weighs-250-pounds-denied-massage-spa-owner-said-fat-break-table.html A Colorado woman who is training for a half-marathon is outraged after she was denied a massage at a spa by the owner - who said she was 'too fat' and 'would probably break the table.' Laura Smith, who weighs 250 pounds and stands 6-foot-3, admits she isn't 'tiny,' but she is furious with Penny Wells, a so-called 'doctor of Oriental medicine' at Natural Healing Center in Aurora, Colorado. The incident came one day after she finished running a half-marathon. A local chiropractor said most massage tables are built to hold 2,000 pounds, and have a 'working weight' of 500 pounds - twice what Ms Smith weighs.
crankF 12893 Report post Posted February 20, 2013 Ms. Smith should should have decked the chiro, she looks like she could kick most doctors' asses whether they be male or female. Just one more example of big people shaming.
cat 262460 Report post Posted February 20, 2013 An Oriental spa refusing a female service? Hmmmm, what do you think? I'd put my money on that they needed an excuse and size was the first thing that came to mind. Most asian MAs don't see women... cat
