PoorGuy 1098 Report post Posted February 26, 2013 Just a reminder to all us men who pay women for sexual services that once in a while the po-po WILL pose as a prostitute trolling on BP or CL or even CERB or any other advertising forum as under 18. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2013/02/26/ns-ice-child-luring-arrest.html If you're paying for sex, make sure she's 18 and over! You'll wreck your life like these 5 men who have their names forever plastered on the internet and in our communities.
CristyCurves 169032 Report post Posted February 26, 2013 Some may think my statement harsh but if you know you are dealing with a 16 yr old you deserve prosecution, thats a child. In my opinion 18 is to young, but thats just me. I know in Canada you are considered an adult at 18 but that is still a teenager, so is 19 . It is alot to expect teens to deal with adults in their 30's,40's, 50's and beyond. Although I realize everyone matures differently I can only think back when I was a teen and I know I wasn't an exception to how immature and unprepared they can be.
roamingguy 300292 Report post Posted February 26, 2013 I agree with you Cristy. These "men" wanted to engage in sexual activities with underage girls. They aren't the victims here, and in fact, if this wasn't a sting but a real BP/CL ad, they would have ended up arranging to have sex with underage girls. The only ones needing to be careful of BP/CL are those "men" who reply to ads for underage girls...and they deserve whatever punishment the law has for them. No sympathy whatsoever for them RG
Meg O'Ryan 266444 Report post Posted February 26, 2013 I tend to agree with Christy and RG. The men caught up in theses stings are usually seeking exactly that...the teen! If they weren't, they would be more vigilant in THEIR screening methods.

Capital Hunter 18263 Report post Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) When I read the article It appeared to me that they knowingly communicated with and attempted to see a girl who was clearly advertised as underage (as 16) for the purpose of prostitution?. If so then they deserve what is coming to them, in my view. Additional Comments: It was so unbelievable that people would do such thing that I had to read the article 3 times to be sure that they knew about the underage and yes I am pretty sure they did. As I have mentioned in my prior posts recently best to ask for ID for unknown providers especially on BP or CL. Ask them to cover their personal info (like name and address) with their hand or fingers and all you are interested to see is their picture (must be the picture of visiting lady of course) and birthdate. Make it a pre-requisite upon arrival for appointment to go ahead. Some would welcome this request as they realize that you are safe and legal. Edited February 27, 2013 by Capital Hunter I meant to say check birtdate not birthday.

Meaghan McLeod 179664 Report post Posted February 27, 2013 Anyone who decides to see someone who advertises themselves as 16 years old deserves to be caught. Its not like they didn't realize the girl was underage and got caught. She advertised that she was underage and therefore the pedophiles needed to be apprehended. No sympathy here. Sorry, they knew that what they were doing was wrong, but decided to go thru with it and got caught.

Eastcoasthobbiest 434 Report post Posted February 27, 2013 These kinds of people give the community a bad name and it's truly a shame because only a tiny percentage of people would stoop to exploiting a child like that. In my opinion, it's good news for us that they were caught. Similar to the way our community warns the other members about encounters that were uncomfortable or unsafe, this weeds those undesirables out of the system. This is the kind of event that the media uses to attack the comunity as a whole and we have them to thank for it. I'd suggest we all be cautious about our activities in the near future, asking for established references and only seeing providers who have been around for a while, lest law enforcement decide to expand the scope of their investigation, as they are prone to do when they get publicity for doing something right. Keep your heads straight, take care of each other and we'll all be okay. 99.98217% of us in the community do nothing wrong. It's the other 0.01783% that we have to worry about. (Statistics approximated and may be accurate to +-50%) ;)

shantyhaus 142 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Everyone here knows the age of consent is 16 and someone, say 50, fucking a 16 year old isn't illegal, right? However, even though prostitution is legal, the government has put 18 as the age of consent to be an escort. These men probably did not know they were even doing anything illegal outside of obtaining an escort as people are aware the age of consent is 16, but not aware 18 is the age of consent for escorts. While it may be creepy for grown ass men to be propositioning 16 year old girls, it isn't pedophilia. A pedophile by definition is someone who is attracted to pre-pubescent children, at 16 they do not fit that criteria as they have reached sexual maturity. Labeling these guys as pedophiles is not only not fair to them but cheapens the word, real pedophiles ruin children's lives and should have it tattooed across their forehead.

I appreciate your point and agree about your pedophiles comment. But when a man is going to hobby he needs to know the laws and rules just as we sp's need to. The law concerning protistution in this case considers dealing with a 16 year old exploitive sex, which is illegal and alot feel immoral as most adults feel 16 is a child, I do. Why would any man of maturity, 25 or over as the charged men were, want to be with someone so young? Legally it isn't pedophilia but morally it is, jmo. When an adult deals with a child to many bad things can happen, experience can be used to manipulate a young mind and coherce them into doing things they may not want to do ,are prepared to do or should even consider doing. I think the point of 16 being the age of consent is mute in this case. But I appreciate your point.

cyclo 30131 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Everyone here knows the age of consent is 16 and someone, say 50, fucking a 16 year old isn't illegal, right? However, even though prostitution is legal, the government has put 18 as the age of consent to be an escort. These men probably did not know they were even doing anything illegal outside of obtaining an escort as people are aware the age of consent is 16, but not aware 18 is the age of consent for escorts. In addition to prostitution, there are a few other circumstances, activites and relationships that fall into the "exploitive" category and raise the age of consent to 18. These include pornography, authority, trust, dependency and Internet luring. The following excerpts are from a Dept of Justice FAQ regarding the age of consent for sexual activity.. "... the age of consent is 18 years where the sexual activity "exploits" the young person -- when it involves prostitution, pornography or occurs in a relationship of authority, trust or dependency (e.g., with a teacher, coach or babysitter). Sexual activity can also be considered exploitative based on the nature and circumstances of the relationship, e.g., the young person's age, the age difference between the young person and their partner, how the relationship developed (quickly, secretly, or over the Internet) and how the partner may have controlled or influenced the young person." "The Criminal Code protects 16 and 17 year olds against sexual exploitation, where the sexual activity occurs within a relationship of trust, authority, dependency or where there is other exploitation. Whether a relationship is considered to be exploiting the 16 or 17 year old will depend upon the nature and circumstances of the relationship, e.g., the age of the young person, the age difference between the young person and their partner, how the relationship developed and how the partner may have controlled or influenced the young person. As well, 16 and 17 year olds cannot consent to sexual activity that involves prostitution or pornography." "No one may make, distribute, transmit, make available, access, sell, advertise, export/import or possess child pornography. Child pornography is broadly defined and includes materials that show someone engaged in explicit sexual activity who is, or seems to be, under the age of 18 years; or show a young person's sexual organ or anal region for a sexual purpose. Child pornography also includes written and audio material that encourages others to commit a sexual offence against a child, or is primarily a description of unlawful sexual activity with a child that is intended for a sexual purpose." "No person may use a computer system, such as the Internet, to communicate with a young person for the purpose of facilitating the commission of a sexual or abduction offence against that young person. This offence is sometimes called "Internet luring"." Here's the full link: http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/dept-min/clp/faq.html
Meaghan McLeod 179664 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Everyone here knows the age of consent is 16 and someone, say 50, fucking a 16 year old isn't illegal, right? However, even though prostitution is legal, the government has put 18 as the age of consent to be an escort. A child who is 16 is considered a minor. They cannot drink, vote and have limited driving privileges. The age of consent is defined as "The age of consent, also known as the "age of protection", refers to the age at which a young person can legally consent to sexual activity. All sexual activity without consent, regardless of age, is a criminal offence." These men probably did not know they were even doing anything illegal outside of obtaining an escort as people are aware the age of consent is 16, but not aware 18 is the age of consent for escorts. You are making an assumption. How do you know they did not know? Where you there? While it may be creepy for grown ass men to be propositioning 16 year old girls, it isn't pedophilia. A pedophile by definition is someone who is attracted to pre-pubescent children, at 16 they do not fit that criteria as they have reached sexual maturity. Labeling these guys as pedophiles is not only not fair to them but cheapens the word, real pedophiles ruin children's lives and should have it tattooed across their forehead. Well if you want to cross hairs that it is not pedophilia a sixteen year old is still considered a minor. Anyone knows that. However, they might be considered " Hebephilia is defined as individuals with a primary or exclusive sexual interest in 11-14 year old pubescents or maybe they are Ephebophilia is the primary or exclusive adult sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 19". If the 16 year old is lying about her age or has not fully reached maturity yet she would be considered pubescent. What ever term you want to use, it is still under the pedophilia family. Great idea about tattooing it across their forehead, however I think that ALL Child abusers who are convicted should have it tattooed on their nose. They can always cover up their forehead, but its pretty hard to cover up a big red dot on their nose labelling them as a child abuser.
canuckhooker 19203 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 I need my head read to comment on this, but hell, somedays I just need help. Just to be clear I am not condoning the behaviour of the men, and I don't want to debate that point. First off the way I read the OP's message, was not so much to watch out they are busting pedo's, but that LE was using BP etc to run a sting. In this case they were after people paying for sex with someone under 18, but his final comment warns people to make sure that the person you are talking to is 18. I think the fear was that they are using escort ads as bait to catch people. The ads didn't say "16 Year old", that was only revealed in communications later. And yes, they should have walked away. In this case the sting was underage girls, but it could just as easily have been anything else considered illegal. Whether or not that is plausible is another matter, but I think he thought it was and was warning folks who use BP etc. He was a bit ham-fisted about it, but I don't think he was condoning seeing 16 year old escorts. The second issue is the age of consent debate. The age of consent in this country is 16. (it was only just raised from 14). That means, any personal moral issues aside, any person 16 years of age or older can have sex with anyone else regardless of the age. There are certain exceptions that all fall under the category of "exploitation". Despite peoples feelings on the issue, a 50 year old can sleep with a 16 year old legally, with no problems, provided the 50 year old does not hold a position of authority, is not using coercion, or does not pay them. That is the law plain and simple. Those acts are all listed as exploitation. So be aware that in this law the government classes "prostitution" as exploitation. I think there are many people on this board who would have issue with that if that generalization was applied to anyone over the age of 18. As for the luring. If these guys were meeting these girls in Justin Bieber fan-girl sites, or some other place, deliberately targetting them, then yeah I would say they were luring. But in this case they answered an ad, placed in an escort forum, where the advertisers are all supposed to be over 18. Their crime was too continue to talk after finding out the ad was allegedly for a 16 year old. Again, I don't condone the behaviour. I personally think the guys should have ran or reported the ad when it came out the "bait" was only 16 years old.
boomer01 5567 Report post Posted March 2, 2013 I agree that what these men did is wrong but to label them as pedophiles is just going a bit too far. MsManda 25686 Report post Posted March 2, 2013 They got what they deserved, in my opinion.. I have iffy feelings about 18 year Olds in this business even. When youre that young, you're not in the headspace to think throughly of the consequences and risks involved in your actions. I was mature for my age at 17, but had I gotten into the business then, my thinking would have been much different than it is now. When I think about how young teenagers are in their minds, and how they make their decisions, it really bothers me, and I do find it exploitative, that someone would try to hire one for sex. Even if they aren't children per se, most teens aren't mature enough to make these types of life changing decisions, and I really don't believe a high percentage of the men who would see such young ladies, actually have their best interests at heart.
