mod 135640 Report post Posted March 22, 2013 So we have a few people complaining about a new feature I added to encourage more user participation (and it's working!) New members (under 5 posts for less then 5 days) now get a notice (See below) that they should post and change the status (basically from a lurker who is using the site for research and not contributing to a contributing member). The notice will disappear once they post 5 posts and have been a member for 5+ days. The site is FREE to use and they are complaining!? Seriously!! I have actually had TWO members (Long time members) complain in PM's and the one had been a member for 200+ days and the other (get this) has been a member for over 2000 days and is pissed that he now gets this notice? WTF??? If you have been here 200+ or 2000+ days and used the site for info on SP's and not given back at least 5 comments for the rest of the community?? Why do these guys feel this is ok? should we really be concerned? Here is the notice: Hi {{USERNAME}}, You are currently listed as a NEW MEMBER so you are seeing this message. It will go away once your account is upgraded to a general member account! As a new member you want to change that NEW MEMBER label as soon as possible!! It helps others trust you and helps build a online persona! This account will change automatically once you meet the 5 day 5 post criteria. New members are MODERATED (meaning every public post or comment does not show up instantly - instead it goes to a queue where the moderators must review and approve it before your post is shown to the other members) Your account is also limited in other ways. For instance if you are a "Hobbiest" you can only comment on existing recommendation of the ladies (and not post a NEW one for a lady who does not already have a recommendation). If you are a service provider (SP) then your ads will not go online instantly but will need to wait for a moderator to approve them - but once you meet the 5 day 5 post criteria they show instantly. NOTE: Your 5 posts must be PUBLIC posts (This does not include posts to guestbooks, social groups or comments) but does include new posts as well as public replies to existing discussions & recommendation threads. You have been a member for {{NUMBER OF DAYS}} days now.... this message will go away once you have been a member for 5 days as long as you have 5 public posts to your name! if you area seeing this then you have not met that criteria yet! If you need some help, have questions about the features here or are just overwhelmed and need advise you will want to visit our NEW MEMBER AREA where the other members here would be more then happy to answer any of your questions or try to assist you. If you have not already found your CITY then you will want to go to the main page (Click the CERB logo above) and scroll down to find your PROVINCE and CITY - (Cerb is Canada wide and each city/province has it's own discussion areas and advertising areas for the providers) We also have a general discussion area, news area, announcements, and much more! Be sure to check out the social groups, our live video chatroom and each members custom profile pages and photo albums! This really is a great community and remember here at cerb we do not allow ANYTHING negative to be said (Please find other discussion sites for that). We try to keep cerb positive and friendly at all times and do ask people who can not behave in this manner to leave (keeping all the nice people here). Be sure to check out the FAQ and RULES area as well. As a new member the info here is very important!. Yes, it's long (It's long for a reason!) it's made to be informative to NEW MEMBERS and it's long to be a NAG so that you give back to the community!! No excuse is valid for not contributing. Put your browser into PRIVACY MODE (as you should be doing already) and make sure your username is not something your co-workers or anyone else might pick up on and post some comments!! Don't be a troll/leach and expect everyone else to share for your benefit when you don't contribute.
mod 135640 Report post Posted March 22, 2013 I actually want to add a BIG thank you to all the members who have started posting quality posts. In the last 24 hours I have seen 10 times more moderated (new member) posts and a lot of good quality comments coming in! So to all those who are sharing and contributing thank you. I know I am venting a little as it upset me with the people complaining. I felt I missed the most important part of this and that was to thank all the people who needed the push to post and have started to join in the conversations and community. Welcome.
