Jabba 18389 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 I'm not really a Country & Western fan. Well, ok maybe, maybe I am. But maybe I'm just a fan of talent. I'm a relatively new fan of Johnny Cash. I always thought of his music simply as Boom-chika-boom-chika-boom guitar strumming. I never appreciated his gift until I saw a video of him doing a song about a flood "How high is the water Momma?" Ohhhh, shit. This guy's for real! One of his final videos - heart breaking. Frig - why can't I understand anything until it's gone!! I've discovered other talents that I took for granted - Randy Travis, for one....Dude, this guy has seen serious struggles with himself. Such an angry, disappointed man. But sooo talented. AHH...The list goes on...Glenn Campbell, etc...help me out here...I only know male celebs.
Jabba 18389 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 I don't think Randy is angry or disappointed, I think he has an addiction and I know a lot of people don't have any sympathy for people like him, but I do. I'm not a big country fan either, I just like music that makes me tap my toes or hum along, regardless of the genre. I definitely understand about addictions. I recall seeing a documentary on Travis a few years ago. There was a picture of him in his early years on a construction site - picking up some debris. A picture of a young man who was without hope and troubled - Angry and in pain. I saw the look in his eyes and in his face. I would not want to tangle with the guy. The individual I saw in the picture was headed for real trouble.
roamingguy 300292 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 Not disputing that there are troubled country celebs...but it isn't just country music that has it's share of troubled celebs. Heard of Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrisson, Janis Joplin, Keith Moon, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Steven Tyler and I could go on...and that's just music. Haven't even mentioned actors and actresses. Question to be asked is why do talented and gifted individuals who seemingly have it all squander their lives on self destructive behaviour. And why does it seem celebrity status brings out the worst behaviour in people. A rambling RG
