royalflush131313 3480 Report post Posted April 30, 2013 It took until 2013 for a male athlete playing in the world of professional team sports in North America to openly admit he is gay. He immediately received lots of support from other players in social media. Hopefully this will help others feel comfortable enough to be who they are and not feel like they have to hide their true self. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/magazine/news/20130429/jason-collins-gay-nba-player/?sct=hp_t11_a2&eref=sihp
Peachka 4334 Report post Posted April 30, 2013 Props to Collins for doing this but he waited until the season was over & he is a 34 yr old UFA, so he may be finished in the NBA. Other players have come out but after their playing career is over.
Phaedrus 209521 Report post Posted May 1, 2013 Well, as for why he did it, in his brother's words: What does Jason want out of this? He wants to live his life. He wants a relationship, he wants a family, he wants to settle down. He wants to move forward with his personal life while maintaining his life as a professional basketball player. That's all, really. Same as everybody else. And here's the case for him (probably) being back next season. Now, onwards to the glorious future when this sort of thing isn't remotely newsworthy!
