Guest W***ledi*Time Report post Posted August 10, 2009 An interesting "take" on the Rhode Island politics behind the legislative deadlock (together with another expression of the "can't-fight-human-trafficking-unless-all-prostitution-is-also-illegal" argument, sigh): authors Donna M. Guest W***ledi*Time Report post Posted October 30, 2009 On the second and final day of a rare fall session, Rhode Island legislators have cleared a major hurdle toward closing a 30-year legal loophole that allows indoor prostitution in the state. WBRU?s Vasundhara Prasad reported from Smith Hill ... that the Senate has passed a bill, 35-to-2, banning indoor prostitution. A similar bill passed yesterday in the House. Rhode Island is the only place in the country, aside from parts of Nevada, where indoor prostitution is legal. http://news.wbru.com/2009/10/breaking-ri-senate-passes-bill-banning-indoor-prostitution/ The bill proposes that prostitutes could be punished by up to six months in prison for a first offense, while their customers would face a year. http://www.abc6.com/news/67341687.html
Guest W***ledi*Time Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Gov. Don Carcieri signed legislation this week banning indoor prostitution in the only state where it was legal apart from parts of Nevada. Following this the police could start raiding some of the more than 30 brothels operating across Rhode Island. Prostitution has immediately become a misdemeanor crime irrespective of where it occurs after the new law was signed. Up to six months in prison for the first offense will be inflicted on prostitutes while customers and prostitutes convicted of a subsequent offense could be punished by a maximum one-year sentence. http://topnews.us/content/28161-rhode-island-bans-indoor-prostitution

Guest W***ledi*Time Report post Posted November 4, 2009 I haven't read the article yet, but just by looking at the heading. Outdoor is allowed, backseat of Minivan? Heck, get yourself a motorhome!! Touring SPs!!! Whole new meaning to outcalls!! Nonstop I like how you think ... but outdoor was never allowed. Background blurb: State lawmakers inadvertently opened the loophole in 1980 when they passed legislation trying to crack down on prostitutes and their customers creating havoc in the West End of Providence. They adopted a law targeting those who sold sex in public, but it was silent on indoor prostitution. Judges would later rule the change had the effect of legalizing paid sex in private. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125728834541726321.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLTopStories
