theliquor (Lost but not fo 50595 Report post Posted June 1, 2013 (edited) I got an overseas call last night around 3 a.m. from the wife (now widow) of a man who was the principal at an international school my son taught at a couple of years ago, they became friends, and the family visited Canada, Ottawa and Toronto specifically. The phone call was from a desperate distraught woman, who just lost her husband, along with eight students who were trying to flee Syria, who thought they were safe travelling in a Red Cross convoy. Not so much. Hezbolah, Syrian troops, Syrian Rebels, who knows who was responsible. Couldn't get back to sleep after the telephone call, so pulled out some of the old LP's, cd's and blasted songs protesting war in general. In the 60's it was Vietnam, then Grenada, African nations with oil, African nations without oil, the 'Stans, the Middle East. When will the killing of the innocents end? If you give a shit about such ramblings, let me know what your favourite anti-war songs are. Some of mine are: Edwin Starr: War Micheal Franti: Can bomb the world to pieces but you can't bomb the world to peace The Doors: Apocolypse Now- The End CCR: Fortunate Son Donovan: Universal Soldier Animals: We Got to Get Out of this Place Country Joe & the Fish: Vietnam Song Barry Maguire: Eve of Destruction Edited June 2, 2013 by theliquor (Lost but not forgotten)

Guest ***nsut***jr Report post Posted June 1, 2013 That's a truly sad story and it hits closer to home when you hear it from a person and not the media. What can you say... it's just a waste in too many ways. Bob Dylan's Masters of War is a pretty timeless message addressed to all those who create and profit from war. http://www.bobdylan.com/ca/node/26147

Guest Ot**w***og****n Report post Posted June 1, 2013 This is "the" protest song. Buffalo Sringfield's "For What It's Worth" (1967)...seems like yesterday.

thedriver 6179 Report post Posted June 3, 2013 Having spent my childhood in the US during the Viet Nam war all the songs mentioned have a special place in my heart and I could not think of another old song to mention. But then I thought of the new generation living with war today and this is the song that came to mind. Wavin' Flag by K'naan
