Midnite-Energies 110563 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 I read a latest article regarding the Bedford events this week but that's not what started me thinking, it was a comment made afterwards. His argument was that if everything becomes legal surrounding prostitution then it becomes a legitimate profession which means it will then need to be brought up in schools and via guidance/career counselors as a legitimate and viable option. Of course he went on to say do we really want to give this options to our children or have it discussed in schools and no, we do not. My thought is WHY NOT? The only stigma surrounding it is what people place on it. If there were a sudden shift in perception of course it would be legitimate. I'm sure there are people out there who have the right attitude and skills and interests that this might be a career choice for them. Porn was always a career choice and yes, people wanted to get into porn, still do. It's funny that there is less of a stigma there than with prostitution. My point is, this SHOULD be an option for those who want it. Just because others don't doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the table. Everyone focuses on sex (which already causes people to become hinky) but there's so much more to it. This is a profession of HEALTHCARE and MENTALCARE and even those in it for the money or for the notches on their belt, get the benefits whether they are focused on them or not. Whose to say that decriminalizing prostitution won't have positive impacts in other industries. Sex Surrogates or Sexual Psychologists who could never touch only talk, might now be able to show and make greater strides with those suffering. Pleasure might make it into nursing homes and elder care where even the aged deserve to feel good. HEALTHCARE and MENTALCARE!! Think about it. Yes, it's sex but sex just doesn't make us "feel" good, it makes us feel GREAT and studies on the positive impacts of sex prove this. There is so much more at play here then just incalls, living off the avails etc. This is about bring the benefits of sex out of the shadows and from behind closed doors and giving it to the people. Letting them decide what's good and right for them. So, hells yea! Offer it as a legitimate profession and all the other professions that could benefit from it as well even if indirectly!
Guest B**na***oy Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Midnite, you're a sinner! Start praying and chase those dirty thought out of your head. LOL ;-) Of course, you're bang on and I would vote for you. But at the same time, society is not ready for this much progress all at once. Unfortunately, you're just ahead of your time.
bcguy42 38594 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 A society where all things sexual were treated as a normal, good part of being human. Would that it could be! I agree that having the SCC make the right decisions would be a small step in the right direction. If they do that, however, the Heart Institute should be on alert because some of those folks on the steps yesterday are going to have "the big one".
CristyCurves 169032 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 It all sounds good and probably should happen but as long as there is religion general society is going to want to keep sex in the shadows and will always consider those who seek to purchase and sell it as immoral and of poor character. Guest B**na***oy Report post Posted June 14, 2013 On that topic, here is an extract of a correspondence I sent today to someone in the industry I care about. I think it's worth it to share with everyone. I also greatly appreciate your company and the opportunity to do nice things to each others. We're both consenting adults, what's the problem? Believe me, if I didn't have to resort to escort services, I wouldn't. The reason I'm there is not because I'm dirty or deviant etc..., the reason I'm there is because it hurts and I want to retain my sanity. Those secret, but respectful meetings allow me to remain a productive ''respectable'' citizen (what hypocrisy). Thank you for being there for guys like me and doing it with such dignity. fortunateone 156618 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 What I put in my rep comment is that it is also unlikely for anyone to see professional athlete or actor, or any number of things that are not straight up 9-5 kinds of so called legit jobs as options. People are always uncomfortable with work that pays well but usually means those doing it are using their bodies, relying on their bodies to perform the work, and are not likely to be doing the work within an 8 hour day 5 days a week that they can identify with. The concept of getting paid today, but maybe not tomorrow, or not getting paid if injured or not getting paid if not hired is typical to these types of work: acting, sports and sex work. Parents don't want no retirement plan and medical benefits or the uncertainty of income for their kids anyway, no matter what the work actually involves. :)
Midnite-Energies 110563 Report post Posted June 14, 2013 Fortunateone, it's interesting because I have heard this from people recently which is total BS when you can buy everything you need nowadays to offset whatever you have. There are medical plans you can get as an individual and you can pay into the pension plan. People are just too stuck in their "learned behaviors" to see anything differently. This is a huge reason we're stuck. We need to unlearn those behaviors we were taught that no longer have a bearing or at least ask ourselves why we believe what we do, is it something we truly believe or someone elses belief. Tsukiyo_Chevalier 3242 Report post Posted June 15, 2013 I will say one thing i never planed to get into this hobby and even thou i will not be in it long a couple of years ago i would be saying to my self what am i doing. that being said i have never thought that this should be illegal at any point in my life, even my family growing up never thought it should be illegal. if anything, more help could prevent a lot of things from health issues to keeping people safe both women and men. this thing is wile i thing learning about it in school would be ok,it would still be a little tricky, it is a step that all of society is nowhere close to being ready to except yet. maybe one day :)
Fresh start 17467 Report post Posted June 15, 2013 I could be totally whack but seriously I believe this could help create a safer and more understanding society if it were decriminalized. In school nowadays, with all the bullying going on they are starting to treat it, by educating the kids about it and consequences. The same for depression and suicide. Suicide is considered a sin in some religions and frankly was never discussed when I went to school. Knowledge is key, educating kids about both side of prostitution the good, the bad. How to stay safe, leave them chose for themselves after they've learned these things. Giving more people to enter in the industry for the right reason and not the wrong ones. Perhaps the increase of workers would decrease the demand and reduce sex trafficking and underage. I'm probably dreaming but it may even help some woman with the self esteem and body image. There are types for everyone and where one may find beauty others migh not. It truly is a form of healing I'm living proof. I think the benefits would outway the negatives. As for the whole health plan and retirement plan. It is possible to contribute to private companies that offer medical insurance. As for retirement well everybody should consider investing in a retirement plan cause the way our gavernment and politician seem to be wasting our money I don't think there will be much left when I retire in 30 some years. Today alot of professional athletes go to college and get some sort of education to fall back on, well lot of provider are doing this to pay for their education. I'm sure it's given them so much experience, as an entrepreneur and life experiences. Meet people and learn from them even teach their clients something. It took society how long to realize being gay is ok, it still has its prejudice but so does everything else but it's become more except able to society lets hope the same for prostitution.
loopie 15358 Report post Posted June 15, 2013 Canada is becoming more open-minded, but very slowly, and I think your average CERBite is probably about 100 years ahead, which can be frustrating. There will always be a gap between what is legal and what is socially encouraged/accepted. But gaining legal acceptance is a big step towards gaining social acceptance.
