MandalayBay 575 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 Hi Everyone, This has been a long time in the works as I've had to get the equipment needed to do a to-notch job of this. The investment has now been made to purchase a high-definition video camera and accessories that will do a very professional job and I'm ready to move forward. I would like to produce a positive documentary about the escorting industry and am looking for four (4) escorts to feature in this documentary. The financial benefit of being casted is that there will be a profit sharing contract in place. Rather than going into details here, I'd like to direct everyone to my website at http://www.canadianescortsdoc.com for all the details. Please help me spread the word about this so I can cast the very best ladies out there and make this a true success. For those ladies I have spoken with already, I'll be in touch shortly. xoxo Mandalay http://www.canadianescortsdoc.com
v*****m*n 220 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 good for you and I am sure you will have a hard time picking only 4 of the many great applicants. Good Luck
jerican 657 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 Great concept Mandalay..can't wait to see the finished product! You should even consider creating a blog to chronicle the development of the doc to generate even more pre-buzz for the finished product....many filmmakers do this when working on projects. coachg 388 Report post Posted September 30, 2009 Great project Mandalay...I wish you sweet success in this venture, but knowing you as well as I do, this will be a first class documentary, done from the proper prospective with all of your special abilities and wealth of experience combining to make it a huge success. You will have no trouble recruiting quality ladies to aid you in getting the story out of how this industry is viewed and lived by a great number of people. It should cast this business in an altogether different light and dispell some of the negative notions people have about this industry as a whole. Good luck kid. Guest S***e Report post Posted September 30, 2009 I think a documentary of this nature is long overdue and will no doubt cause a lot of reaction, hopefully more positive than negative. I am very biased in favour of the ladies and their "chosen" profession, yet there will be those who will be on their high horses as usual. It's always great to gain exposure to a fair assessment by those who are working in the business and who are there of their own free will and are not subject to coercion. Anyhow, good luck with your project. I would be most interested in viewing the final results.
Grass_Hopper 18263 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 I hope your project will have all the success it deserves... You are a very active member on threads, and I think you will drive this doc as a chief... Good luck!!!
Guest Report post Posted October 1, 2009 Good for you Miss MandalayBay. What an interesting concept. I hope you enjoy your project and I'm sure it will be a hit. I'm sure half the fun is getting that equipment to work. Have fun and let us all know when you are done.
MandalayBay 575 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 Thanks for the great advice Youngstud. I am going to follow most of it and truly do the majority of work on pre-planning it. I've had one application since posting this (in addition to the SPs I talked about before even announcing the project) and the lady sounds fantastic. (I'll be in touch with you shortly.) It looks like I'm going to be taking a trip to Ottawa to meet with some great candidates for casting. I cannot wait to meet these incredible ladies! This is very exciting and I'm going to do the best job I possibly can on this project. Please help me to spread the word as I am looking for more ladies that might be good cast members. Thanks! cat 262460 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 Congratulations Miss Mandalay! This is a project that has the potential to have a really positive impact on the misconceptions surrounding our industry. My suggestions echo YoungStud, use professionals and take your time planning and DO IT JUSTICE! cat
geo007 203 Report post Posted October 1, 2009 This is a great idea which can maybe help clear up misconceptions the general public has vis a vis the industry. Great advice from YoungStud. Has to be professionally carried out. I see a lot of benefits flowing from the escort industry and these should be researched a bit and included somehow in the documentary. Our local Erin from OPG may be a good resource person to help out. Wish you all the best.
MandalayBay 575 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 I'd like some inspiration from members, if you don't mind taking a moment to let me know your thoughts. a) What questions have you always wanted to ask an SP? If you are an SP, what questions do you get asked the most? b) What would you like to see in a positive documentary about escorts? c) What is your all-time favourite documentary and why? Thanks for your thoughts. Mandalay
coachg 388 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Some questions I have asked or would like to ask include; (This question asked without judgement..just curious) Why the escort industry? Pure enjoyment?(just love sex) Financial? Own boss? Freedom? One I have never asked because it is none of my business, but I have discussed it with a few SP's when the topic somehow was brought up. Do you have a financial plan and how are you saving for the future? To me it would be pretty easy to get caught up in the lifestyle and spending money would be very easy, especially if a person always seemed to have amounts of cash on hand. Some ladies have a five year plan and a goal to achieve, when they achieve that goal, they can decide if they want to continue what they are doing or if it is time to move on. Do you have any regrets? This is a question that could apply to anybody in any given job. There is a low % of people who actually enjoy going to work each day. I admire the people who can honestly say they truly enjoy their work....many of the ladies I have met truly love the lifestyle they are living and I think that is great. I would like to see the SP's explain why they have chosen this profession (and god bless them all for their choices), what kind of plan (career and financial) they have for the future and just how much they enjoy what they do. People have to lose the misconception that all these ladies are forced one way or another into being an escort. People need to see a positive spin on escorting and what a valuable service it provides, and that most of the people involved...escorts and clients and good decent people. Viewers need to see that there is more than just a dark side to this industry, because we all know that there is a definate dark side to this world, but luckily there is also a very bright side. YoungStud 468 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 c) What is your all-time favourite documentary and why? Thanks for your thoughts. Mandalay Just about anything by Donald Brittain, though Bethune, the Champions and On Guard for Thee series, Paperland, Canada's Sweetheart, Buster Keaton Rides Again, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Leonard Cohen", Memorandum, King of the Hill and Monsieur John Grierson are among my faves. His docs cover a wide range of topics from spies, gangsters and bureaucrats to comedians, politicians and poets, plus pro baseball, the Holocaust, the Arctic, trucks, helicopters and country music, just to name some. All of his productions are witty, quirky, funny, literate, insightful, imaginative, intelligent and informative. He was a wonderful writer, an outstanding producer and journalist and a great human being. Donald Brittain could make you interested in stuff you didn't think you'd be interested in and really, really interested about stuff you were already interested in. From NFB docs in public school and the great era of AmNet docs on border television (NBC White Paper and CBS Reports), I've loved that format. I was privileged to attend John Grierson's lectures on film when I was a young college student. (He coined the term "documentary" and founded the National Film Board of Canada.) No one carried on John Grierson's legacy, in my view, better than Don Brittain. The fact that Donald Brittain like to smoke, drink and party with his fiends almost as much as he liked to make documentaries undoubtedly is part of the reason his productions are so human and accessible. Okay, now back to sex and escorts. Enough of CanDoc 101. Lol
pharte 100 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 It is actually a series called The Greatest Canadian. The boxed set is available fron the CBC. The format involves advocates who present upbeat campaign-style information intended to earn your vote. The winner was Tommy Douglas who stuck it out to bring Canada our current medicare system. fortunateone 156618 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 Some things come to mind: 1. Make sure that you are not just using sps from the East. If you need a West Coast sp, there are a few who travel out there. Touring sps and Vancouver or Edmonton sps are quite different from Toronto, Ottawa and especially Montreal. Their concerns are quite different as it is easier for them to work independently (Vancouver), licensed in mps (Edmonton), and so on. 2. And back to that, find someone who only tours, like Victoria Jolie, or specializes in longer arrangements or traveling engagements like Classy Angel. This would be a great POV that I have not seen in docs before. 3. Check out someone who has worked all aspects of the trade, like susi (Sue Davis) and is an advocate for change and spokesperson as well. This woman has worked in this business continuously for over 20 years, both indoor and outdoor work. 4. Make sure you see the other documentary and all the stories as well. I think there is some info in the Scarletts House website, as Scarlett is part of that documentary from a few years ago. 5. Mature sps, those who chose to do this work later in life come at it from a different perspective. The difference between starting with an agency or starting independent. Interesting stories. 6. You can expect someone who agrees to do it to change their mind lol. You might want to get info from more than 4. You might want to do a web series, instead or as well as a documentary. I find it fascinating that there are so many new "TV" shows that are actually webshows, and this could be a really exciting avenue for this topic. cheers
C**** C***l 155 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 Brilliant idea!! At least now I know not to share my concepts so freely...I wish you all the best with your "new" endeavour - quite honestly, I thought it was going to be an e-book or series of articles...but I suppose it's not too difficult for you to take the documentary idea and make it your own! Not to worry, I do sincerely hope it works for you... One thing you might want to note though...in your call for escorts to audition, your site states: "We are not interested in casting any "madames", those running bawdy houses or those who are profiting from the proceeds of prostitution so as to avoid any conflict with law enforcement." Section 210 (1) of the criminal code states: Every one who keeps a common bawdy-house is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years. so, anyone who has an incall location is keeping a common bawdy house...any place used frequently or habitually for either the exchange of sexual services for money/good/services or for other "indecent acts" is considered a bawdy house...you will be limited to sex workers who only do outcalls...just so ya know good luck with your project... Missy Mariposa 234 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 Make sure you collaborate behind the scenes with someone who has been in this business a long time. From what I recall you worked less than 6 months. While that doesn't disqualify you, I think you could greatly benefit from the experience of others who have been doing this for years.

VedaSloan 119179 Report post Posted October 4, 2009 This is so exciting! I really hope this turns out as well as I think it can. My only suggestion is to keep your participants diverse, or you run the risk of trapping yourself in stereotypes. You can find participants who worked areas of the industry that people might think would be the worst things to do and they do it by choice. There was a great blurb about a woman who worked the street by choice in Spread magazine awhile back. She liked that it was more transaction based and she didn't have to pretend to be interested and most of the time the acts were restricted to fellatio so she didn't even have to take off her clothes. Best of luck! Oh and my favourite documentary is Dig! and I don't think this counts as a documentary, or maybe it does, it's been awhile, but Festival Express is AWESOME.
