Jabba 18389 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 It seems a rather nasty ransomware virus is making the rounds: CryptoLocker. You may or may not have heard about it. Do a search. It pays to do regular backups. http://couleetechlink.com/new2/cryptolocker-removal-how-to-remove-crypto-locker
qwertyaccount 15793 Report post Posted October 24, 2013 Thanks - that's a new one! You are right about making regular backups. It is also important to make them on removable media and kept off site -- you can't infect, burn or steal a backup if it isn't in the drawer next to the computer. For your important files, burn them onto a DVD-R in "one time record" mode -- other than physically destroying the DVD, no one can infect or delete the files.
