Dancers, dancing, & cell phones

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone;

This is something of a rant & I'm sorry if I offend anyone. I don't intend to offend anyone, but I think there are a few things that need to be said.

I know I don't post much but I've been around the SC scene for a long while. I, among others, have made allusions to a few trends that we have seen in the clubs over the last few years.

First, dancers seem to have forgotten about the art of dancing. All too often I see a gorgeous woman get up on stage for a song and it's an energetic, fast paced tune that we all can get into. The lady dances this slow, almost bored, barely teasing show. For me if a dancer isn't interested in moving to a particular song it's going to show. I know of a bar or two that have set lists of songs the girls can pick from, please stop this practice so the ladies have more say. Ladies, pick songs you can move to.

Lately it's hard to find a lady who uses the stage for being showy and doing tricks. Use the music and your ability to catch our attention.

Secondly, cell phones. These great communication tools are wonderful companions and great in keeping in touch with friends, family, and clients. All too often though I see dancers staring at their phones. I for one, will not interrupt you on your phone. The ladies who catch my attention are the ladies who show some interest, energy, and aren't the ones who show up to talk to me for 30 seconds before trying to get me to take them to the CR.

Put the phone away, talk to guys, and be friendly. We'll more than likely respond favourably.

Slammer

P.S. I've been sitting in a club typing this for about 20 minutes on my phone... I'm putting it away now and I'll reply when a dancer comes to speak to me.

they all have decreased communication in the world and now people don't know how to have a polite conversation. conversing takes practice and I need this too.

We need to have a no electronic device day ! lol

Update: Just got spoken to... 3 whole sentences then "Dance?" That's what I waited 45 minutes for? Lol

I'm going to change clubs. Hopefully the ladies at this club notice their 1 customer leaving.

I agree with you. I haven't gone too SC's much in the last couple of years since I found Cerb. But I started going to see SC's in the early 80's. And back then they could dance, had special guest that were porn stars, centerfolds. Back then they had acts. animals, juggling, flame throwing. They could dance and do pole dancing that were exciting to watch. Now they just walk around in HighHeels and shake their ass a bit. The good old days was much more entertaining.

The night turned out alright.. I ended up at the NuDen and actually got some positive experience there. The girls were friendly, for the most part, some still avoided talking to patrons and some were still 2 sentences and trying to take you for dances. I know that they don't get paid if they don't get someone into the back room, but damn to be sitting around doing nothing for an hour and then say 20 words to a customer before abandoning the attempt is terrible.

It seems that some of these women want their body to do all the work.

Kind of funny really. You would think that as women they would have a greater appreciation for the art of seduction and the roll that wooing would play here. Maybe they figure all the guys are in the 'fast food' mode and do not realize that some are there looking for a little bit more of a connection.

Thankfully CERB has plenty of ladies who do understand. :)

for me, i definitely like to have a conversation.

though when it comes to dancers taking a break on their phone, i dont mind it that much. we all needs breaks. and if they arent interested in dances then the dance wouldnt be enjoyable anyways.

what also kills it for me is when i get a sense of urgency or desperation...which i think is hard for some to avoid if they are struggling to make money on a particular day. if they ask me for a dance after saying hello chances are they are getting a no thank you

I agree with everything slammer said. My last experience at a sc was interesting. Arrived with a friend on a Friday night. Was surprised to see leas yhan 6 customers and at least 12 ladies. Was approached by one lady. Had an amazing conversation. CR was never talked about but was inevitable based on how we were getting along. Here's the shitty part. No sooner do I return from buying her a drink she announces that a regular has arrived and since its slow she better take advantage. Completely put off by this. However, a young lady who spoke as much english as I do french joins us. We chat, limited but the whole time we stared at each other. She was also rubbing my leg. So after a few girls danced went to the CR. Excellent time. I would love to see that lady again.

i posted a thread recently about longing for the old days, pre-champagne room, where the dancers had dancing skills and put on shows, etc. Although I do feel that way sometimes, I think we have to be realistic.

In today's strip clubs, it's about drink sales and champagne rooms. Ultimately, the club makes no money off a stage show and neither does the dancer. The club makes cash selling you a 1$ beer for 7$ and the girls make money lap dancing.

I know at least one of you will argue, saying that "if the girl danced better, showed some enthusiasm, she might get more dances". Although this may be true t an extent, she will undoubtedly make a lot more money by having a good reputation for what she does in the champagne room.

I do totally agree with the OP of this thread, however. I have been in clubs before where there are few customers, and i sit alone for an hour while several girls sit scattered around the club playing on their phones or at a poker machine. This drives me nuts. I'm there to spend, they're there to earn, yet somehow there is a disconnect.

I think that part of what frustrates me is that there are ladies who go in and get a couple of regulars, and then camp out and wait on them to show up to make their money. The sit on their phones and don't do anything for themselves, then call whining to the regulars saying that there are no customers to take them for dances...

I have seen this time and again, so I speak from a measure of experience. These are the dancers that give the rest a bad reputation of being greedy and demanding of their clients. The vast majority of the wonderful ladies in these clubs are not like that and I can appreciate their efforts.

i agree there are times when the ladies seem to have no interest in approaching potential clients , but we have no idea how their day has gone .

having to sell yourself all day/night with everything on display . there are jerks that will take the advantage of the moment to judge the ladies . sometimes gotta go to the phone just to hear a polite word , or even have a decent conversation .

lets not forget yours/mine/ours all body language . we may believe we are showing our best , but this is not always true .

so dont sweat it , there are always other ladies and other clubs . plenty of choices on how to spend your money .

yeah for sure you cant take things personally. at the end of the day, its their loss if youre willing to buy dances and they never ask, and its their body and choose who they want to be their customer.

it also must be hard for them too, if they get rejected a few times i bet they will take a break.

my best advice is that if youre really really interested in a dancer and shes alone, then go up, introduce yourself and buy her a drink. if shes on a phone then just pick your window. be a gentleman!

Yes, smartphone use by the dancers is an issue but let's remember that they have made contacting our favorite dancers easier. No longer do we need to call the club to ask if a favorite is working. It's puzzling that some ladies refuse to contact their customers this way. I guess some of them might have overbearing and controlling boyfriends or something. I gave one lady my cell number to text me when she was working there the next time and she hasn't texted me once since. She knows I like seeing her; maybe it isn't mutual. :icon_sad:

It can be a long shift for the dancer who sees no clients, out of boredom what else will they do, aside from playing the poker machines on the Quebec side.

I was a dancer on and off for 3 years.. I still am but I'm more off than on.

I am the type of girl that needs to chat before CR. I'd like to say something here that makes you feel appreciated but in reality it is because I can tell if the guy is going to be a problem by talking to him. I'll take the time to get to know someone so that I feel safe back there.

I do however understand that girls need to make their money and my way of doing it often doesnt work out. Think about it, you spend half another chatting with a guy who takes you for one dance or, worse, none at all. Many dancers play the numbers game and they make more than I ever did - do they have as much fun? do they have more problems? well thats the risk we all take.

Also, please understand that lots of girls nee to get in the mood. Dancing should be done by those who enjoy it.... but it used to be very good money so women who really had no business pursuing it did. Those girls need to "get warmed up" slowly when they come to work. They have a few drinks, take hours to get ready and then stand around. Ladies who love it even have issues when it is dead sometimes. It sucks performing on an empty stage.

All this to say that I think dancing is a dying thing. I think too many get in to it for the money alone and it has ruined it for thos eof us who enjoy the art and the fun. I'm sorry that you ran in to these issues. They are too common

I have to agree that it is a really put off when the ladies are sitting in a line and just looking at their phones. In ottawa, smart phones break the "no video camera" bylaw.

Mind you if I see attractive dancer, I do not mind initiating. I have rarely been told no thanks, unless she was close to her turn on stage.

I also agree there are not many dancers who perform. The most recent I have seen was Bambi who worked at Barefax at lunch time last summer. I told her I enjoyed her stage show and she mentioned that she previously danced in Belleville where contact dances are monitored strictly, so she had to dance well to get customers. She was still not as good as the dancers I remember from about 8 years ago at Barbs lunchtime. One of those girls now dances at the playmate. I can still see the spark of the old show. I usually attempt to take dancers up to the CR who do a good stage show, as long as I have not spent my quota. I had a pretty good chat this year with a dancer. I had mentioned that I liked how the dancer on stage was moving pretty good(fast and slightly aerobatic). She told me do you know what happens if I fall. They will call the ambulance for me, and that is it. If it was me, I am unsure if I would risk it either.

If there were enough customers I would love to open a club that could afford to reward/protect the dancers with the great stage shows, and still have the CR option.

Just to play devil's advocate I wonder how many times a girl sits down talks to a fella for 20-30 minutes and then the fella just gets up and leaves or chooses a different girl etc...

I agree I like when girls come to me due to how shy I tend to be in these clubs so its not always cut and dry.

A girl on her phone doesn't bother me depending on what's she is doing .. (sharing a photo picture story etc) is okay txting friends etc not so much

I do not know how common it is but I do know some dancers use their phones to receive messages from patrons in the club or arriving.. I have been with a dancer in the CR when she received a message and explained that it was how she connects with her regular customers.

Well yes the feature dancers are a dying breed. They don't get paid to dance on stage...they make their money in the CR.

I am usually polite to the girl who comes by and asks to join me but is not my type and not one I'd ever ask for a dance. Sometimes they get snotty and that is just wrong. I'm doing them a favour by, in essence, saying "don't waste your time I'm not going to spend money on dances with you."

A girl who is my type I'll make it clear to them that they are welcome to join me and usually after I buy them a drink and chat for a while they are warmed up and ready to go. Megan is right about that....it goes way better if you've established some rapport. I usually like to compliment the lady and tell her why I like her look or her outfit or her dance. They usually appreciate that if it's done in a genuine non-creepy way because it's feedback to them.

As far as cell phones go if you really want to talk to a girl and you make it obvious she will put the thing away and come over for a chat and a dance.

The girls are human. When I'm in a bar by myself I usually text my friends and check my mail. it's the way we do things now.
