Heard one today and liked it:

Good judgement comes from experience and some of that comes from bad judgement.

There are those who will try and bring a person down with negative words, bullshit and ignorance because of their own misery, problems, hate, stupidity, etc. So I like the expression/words of wisdom- What matters most is how you see yourself:):) I have this on my web page. Knowing this has been one of my most important life lessons:)

Along the same line as CristyCurves above, I once heard this and love it..

"those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind"

I also heard this the other day and found it very profound....

FEAR stands for Fuck Everything And Run

  • There are some who think in order to believe you must see. I think that's backwards. In order to see, you MUST believe!

  • Hope is the little voice that whispers "maybe" when the rest of the world is shouting NO!

  • Don't be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try.

  • We are not here to change the way the world sees us, we are here to change the way we see the world

  • Never compromise who you are because someone has a problem with it.

  • We must travel through our darkness to get to our light

  • Use your smile to change the world....don't let the world change your smile.

My two reigning, and related, favourites:

- A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds. (Nothing worse than "but we've always done it this way!", or even the idea that because you are one way today, you must be the same way tomorrow)

- Life is a collection of short stories pretending to be a novel. (We're enormously different people at different times in our lives or even in different circumstances that are close together in time; there doesn't have to be just one right answer to the question, "who am I?")

"We must travel in the direction of our fear"

"You only live once? FALSE. You live everyday...You only die once."

"There are 2 rules in life. #1. Never give out all the information..."

I just thought that one was clever and cute...

These are the Golden Rules developed by Dale Carnegie.

Principles from How to Win Friends and Influence People

Become a Friendlier Person

  1. Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
  2. Give honest, sincere appreciation.
  3. Arouse in the other person an eager want.
  4. Become genuinely interested in other people.
  5. Smile.
  6. Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
  7. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
  8. Talk in terms of other person's interests.
  9. Make the other person feel important - and do it sincerely.

Win People to Your Way of Thinking

  1. The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.
  2. Show respect for the other person's opinion. Never say, "you're wrong."
  3. If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
  4. Begin in a friendly way.
  5. Get the other person saying, "yes, yes" immediately.
  6. Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
  7. Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
  8. Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
  9. Appeal to the nobler motives.
  10. Dramatize your ideas.
  11. Throw down a challenge.

Be a Leader

  1. Begin with praise and honest appreciation.
  2. Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
  3. Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.
  4. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
  5. Let the other person save face.
  6. Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be "hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise."
  7. Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to.
  8. Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
  9. Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest.

Principles from How to Stop Worrying and Start Living

Fundamental Principles for Overcoming Worry

  1. Live in "day-tight compartments."
  2. How to face trouble:
    > Ask yourself, "What is the worst that can possibly happen?"
    > Prepare to accept the worst.
    > Try to improve on the worst.
  3. Remind yourself of the exorbitant price you can pay for worry in terms of your health.

Basic Techniques in Analyzing Worry

  1. Get all the facts.
  2. Weight all the facts - then come to a decision.
  3. Once a decision is reached, act!
  4. Write out and answer the following question:
    > What is the problem?
    > What are the causes of the problem?
    > What are the possible solutions?
    > What is the best possible solution?

Break the Worry Habit Before It Breaks You

  1. Keep Busy.
  2. Don't fuss about trifles.
  3. Use the law of averages to outlaw your worries.
  4. Cooperate with the inevitable.
  5. Decide just how much anxiety a thing may be worth and refuse to give it more.
  6. Don't worry about the past.

Cultivate a Mental Attitude that will Bring You Peace and Happiness

  1. Fill your mind with thoughts of peace, courage, health and hope.
  2. Never try to get even with your enemies.
  3. Expect ingratitude.
  4. Count your blessings - not your troubles.
  5. Do not imitate others.
  6. Try to profit from your losses.
  7. Create happiness for others.

The Perfect Way to Conquer Worry

  1. Pray.

Don't Worry about Criticism

  1. Remember that unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment.
  2. Do the very best you can.
  3. Analyze your own mistakes and criticize yourself.

Prevent Fatigue and Worry and Keep Your Energy and Spirits High

  1. Rest before you get tired.
  2. Learn to relax at your work.
  3. Protect your health and appearance by relaxing at home.
  4. Apply these four good working habits:
    > Clear your desk of all papers except those relating to the immediate problem at hand.
    > Do things in the order of their importance.
    > When you face a problem, solve it then and there if you have the facts necessary to make a decision.
    > Learn to organize, deputize and supervise.
  5. Put enthusiasm into your work.
  6. Don't worry about insomnia.

Here's a couple motivational quotes that I like:

- Always do your best. What you plan now, you will harvest later.

- Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.

- Be miserable or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice.

"The trouble with some self-made men is their tendency to worship their creator". I find a lot of successful entrepreneurs can be full of themselves. Donald Trump comes quickly to mind.

"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you". These are the ultimate words of wisdom. If everybody followed this simple rule everyone would be a lot better off... unless you're a masochist. :)

I have quite a few of these that I like, so I'll try to keep it short :)

. You don't need religion to have morals. If you can't determine right from wrong then you lack empathy not religion.

. More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them

. Have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
