cinelli 22184 Report post Posted February 2, 2014 This guy was one of those guys who seemed indestructible. He was out shovelling snow and dropped dead. The doctor at emergency said he was probably dead before he hit the ground...so maybe not a bad way to go. He looked like he was in great shape but he ate crap and loved his beer. He didn't smoke, but he almost never exercised. Every day at work he had a greasy breakfast, donuts, muffins, gallons of coffee. He didn't listen to anything his doctor said about his diet. In fact, he constantly badgered people he considered "fat". So there are two lessons here: 1: You aren't fit just because you look thin. What the inside of your heart looks like is more important. Get a treadmill stress test! Everyone should have one in their forties. Your doctor can prescribe one and it only takes a couple of hours. 2: Don't eat garbage. 3: Don't leave a mess behind. My buddy's wife is now dealing with insurance and estate matters. He also told her he had a will but his lawyer says he had discussed it but never actually made one up. It is weird that so many guys worry about "safe sex" when they are so careless about other health matters.

Guest c**io**m7 Report post Posted February 2, 2014 December 21, 2013, I was shoveling snow, had a heart attack and ended up in hospital. You are correct, we can appear healthy, feel healthy but need to take care of what goes on inside our bodies. I was lucky...I am saddened to hear that your buddy wasn't. My heart, my prayers and my thoughts to his wife and family.
Boomer 33202 Report post Posted February 2, 2014 Sorry to hear about your buddy and sympathize with his widow. I fully agree with your advice. I'm north of sixty five and still look forward to getting out and getting the exercise shoveling the drive. But I have had the stress test, eat sensibly and watch my blood pressure and cholesterol. I've just finished having a new will written, and agree it really is so important for those who have to pick up the pieces. It is really important to look at it now and then and keep it current. I also believe when you are doing it that you make sure you get good professional legal advice. In my case I had to reassign my executor as I had left a real real night mare in my earlier one.
qwertyaccount 15793 Report post Posted February 3, 2014 I'm sorry for your loss. Far from ideal, but a quick will can be done quickly by writing out your wishes on a piece of paper and signing it. It has to be written out "in your own hand" and not typed. This is called a holograph will and does not need to be witnessed.
