touchwould2 727 Report post Posted February 6, 2014 I saw this article in a copy of the Citizen lying around at work yesterday and noticed it hasn't made its way to this board yet: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Human+trafficking+Ottawa+least+women+used+slaves+research/9465177/story.html and a link to the funding announcement for the organization that is quoted as having done the "research": http://metronews.ca/news/ottawa/717330/ottawa-human-trafficking-study-gets-200k-from-feds/ and a link to Emily J's blog...since her most recent post is very timely on this subject: http://www.blogasms.xxx/
Kathryn Bardot 99339 Report post Posted February 7, 2014 If 150 women are being trafficked here in Ottawa (and note, it is always "women", or more specifically "girls" used by the abolitionist groups and police; I suppose men can't be trafficked?), then where is the research to back this claim and more importantly, why did Ottawa police not find one single non-consensual worker in the "Northern Spotlight" visits? Just a thought.

Just a thought. Oh, well when men are trafficked, they're smuggled. Apparently men can't be coerced/forced.
fortunateone 156618 Report post Posted February 7, 2014 These two articles contradict each other, if you think about it. On the one hand we are presented with a solid number: 150. On the next article we are presented with funding for someone to go out and find a solid number. Therefore this number presented has to be fake, because they all admit that they don't have the proper tools and funding in place to know what the number IS. smh bleh
Sweet Emily J 172062 Report post Posted February 10, 2014 Since there was no actual evidence provided in this article, citations, or links to any actual research done, last week I e-mailed both the author of the piece in the Ottawa Sun, and the the anti-prostitution group who makes the "150 women forced in Ottawa" claim, to inquire about this apparent research. I have not received so such as an acknowledgement. I don't expect to. The group who made this claim, imPACT Ottawa, has posted on Backpage today. They linked to a survey asking clients basic questions about their involvement in the sex industry. I encourage all clients to take part in this anonymous survey, to have your voice heard. It's only a few questions. These are the sort of groups who are influencing any sort of future legislation. Take the survey:: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5H67FYX As well.. here is a response to that article from Frederique Chabot, of POWER Ottawa: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/touch/story.html?id=9488711
