Oil of oregano for sinus congestion, or as a preventative measure for colds / against early onset of a cold.

Posted via Mobile Device

What kind of oil and do you drink it or rub it.

And how do you use the oregano for sinus congestion.

Prevention is all about increasing your body's immunity, or rather cutting back on stuff that depleat it. So cut the coffee and switch to green tea and cut back on your sugar intake. Increase the amounts of fruits and vegetables in your diet and make sure that you get plenty of sleep. Here's a link to one of many sites that have good suggestions.

Oil of oregano. You can find it at Shopper's Drug Mart with the vitamins, or in the health food section at Loblaws, or at a health food store. It doesn't taste all that hot, but 3-5 drops under your tongue daily does the trick. Have a nice chaser of OJ ready to go, or even mix the drops into a glass of orange juice.

Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils can help clear your respiratory system, by applying them directly [neck/throat & chest] or inhaling [ie. put some into a hot bath, grab a good book, & enjoy!].

My suggested meds are hardly homeopathic, however, Sudafed, NeoCitran are what work for me once I am sick.

A good nights' sleep is very important and is so underrated. A good hot as you can stand it shower before bed helps to relax and clear the sinuses. As for the meds, I choose those that focus sinuses. Clear those up and you sleep better. I usually doctor NeoCitran with a little gin to cut the effects of the sugar. Regardless of the night time concoction, try to take it at least 12 hours before you have to wake up the next day. If you wait too late into the evening, when you wake up the next morning you will be fighting your cold as well as the residual effects of the meds and generally feel worse.

IMHO, I generally try prevention such Vitamin C supplements from October to April.

E.D Man

You should enjoy your meds.

My grandfather's recipe for preventing colds -

A "wee" dram, Scotch of course, taken nightly.

My grandfather's recipe for a cold once you have it -

A "wee" dram, Scotch of course, taken nightly with boiling water and, for this purpose only, a slice of lemon,

He lived to be in his 80s despite working in a chemical factory all his life and rarely had a cold.

Me, on the other hand, until I was old enough to drink, I had colds all the time. But when I had a cold I was given the hot toddy, hot water, lemon recipe.

Born and bred Bluenosers tell me that rum works just as well.

vitamin C and lots of it for prevention (your body will just get rid of what it does not need. To get rid of a cold, brandy then sweat it out (in bed, many blankets and leave them on no matter how hot you are). Next morning a shower (change the sheets) and you'll feel 100% better.

You need to get salt water up your nose and sinuses to decongest and prvent future colds. Need a jug of distilled water - add 4 tablespoons of sea salt (not regular salt) and one tablespoon of baking soda - mix it up in the jug and let it dissolve - get a nasal syringe - take 8 ounces of the solution and heat up in the micorwave until its tepid. Now comes the disgusting part - you need to syringe it up your nose and spit it out to fully clean and drain the sinuses. If you are sick - do this 3 times a day - otherwise once per day. It works - I got this from a ENT specialist

E.D. or anyone else for that matter, you need to give this a shot when you suffer from a cold, it's Olive Leaf Extract 500 mg capsules. My naturopath prescribed this remedy to me and I will never look again for any other cold medicine as this is very effective.

It's at shoppers/wal-mart most pharmacies.

http://www.hydrasense.ca/en/products.aspx

I used the full flow version with immediate results. My sinus pressure would come back a few hours later so I went through two bottles in one week but at the end of the week the sinus infection (That the antibiotics did not clear up a month before) was all gone.

I get sinusitis and like many have tried all sorts of stuff (you become rather desperate to breath and smell after the weeks and weeks of sinus pressure and congestion) - My ears get infected and my head pounds do to the sinus pressure and this actually worked.

The pharmacist at wal-mart recommended it and I was skeptical - she was very right in recommending it.

Also, I had a cough for about 4 months (nothing would make it go away) and the pharmacist at wal-mart suggested these cough drops called "Bentasil" (I HATE COUGH DROPS) but these were like wine gums and no limit to how many you can use in a day. She said not other cough drop works against this cough everyone has... Again, I didn't think they would work as I had tried the halls and the strpsils, etc... etc... but I gave in and tried them (again she was right on the money - They worked, they did not taste bad and my cough actually went away)... I am not a fan of wal-mart but the pharmacist they have in Barrie is 2 for 2 !!

Hydrasense works for chronic sinus problems, but it you want a cheaper, and in my opinion, more effective solution, buy a Neti Pot. They are available in the same section as the Hydrasense and other nose sprays in the drug store.

I use it whenever I have sinus issues and it works. It looks a bit strange pouring what appears to be a tea pot full of salt water into your nose, but once you try it, you will appreciate how well it works.

Just adding to the list of myriad remedies here. I know many people who swear that this stuff can cure everything - including depression, cancer and ambition - although I can't say I personally have tried it as an answer to the common cold. It's called weed. Might not help a cough very much though...

The Neti Pot works too - it just flushes your sinus's with salt water but the little packet they give you to dissolve into the water is horrible. It leaves a really bad taste in your mouth and smell in your sinus's... I don't like it but I will use the pot with just warm sea salt and water and it does flush out the sinus (as long as you hold your head the right way and don't choke). It does help stop the sinus pressure

Here are my top 3

1. Oil of oregano

You can buy it at any health food store make sure it is derived from the proper potent oregano plant, and that the carvacrol concentration is at least 70%. A few drops in a glass of OJ in the AM and your good to go.

2. Garlic

This one will sound weird but it works; take 1 or 2 cloves of garlic and swallow hole, I swear you'll feel better the next day. I cannot say you will smell good as the garlic will seep through you; but is an excellent fast acting cure. Pill format is not as effective. Pray you don't fart because you'll clear a room.

3. Saline flush

You can but different bottles to help with the flush at any pharmacy. In short you shoot water/saline mixture up one nostril and it comes out the other, must do both. By cleaning out the passage you clear a large amount of bacteria away. As well this is an excellent cure for dry nose in the winter.

Black or green tea with honey and lemon. It loosens up the phlegm and keeps you hydrated. Don't forget the extra boost of vitamin C.

My doctor has told me it's great for the common cold, and she was right!
