Guest S****r Report post Posted March 14, 2014 I know this has been discussed before, and I just searched for a thread and can't find it. But even there, I am not sure this question was answered. Is it possible to get a phone without setting up an account, i.e. having to give your name and address? I don't mean a contract. I know of those who don't require a contract. I mean no account, as in not giving your name and address. As an escort, I would like to have a phone that does not anywhere reflect who I am. I used to hear Chattr recommended, but I have been to them twice and they said that is impossible, that you cannot get a phone service of any kind without having an account attached to a name and address. Anyone know a way around this?
piano8950 32577 Report post Posted March 14, 2014 I think you can buy a pre-paid phone for $70 from Walmart, and just buy refill cards. Never tried it here, but that's what I'd do in US.
Meaghan McLeod 179664 Report post Posted March 14, 2014 Last time I checked - the pre-pay phone companies don't require you give them ID - you can create an account in the name of your choice - address can be a post office mail box too if you want. toine 30556 Report post Posted March 14, 2014 Summer, see this thread for suggestions http://www.cerb.ca/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=57484 I personally use a Petro Canada phone... Best, toine
jafo105 39057 Report post Posted March 14, 2014 Like Toine, I also use a Petro Canada cell phone. I have an Anytime Plan which includes Incoming Texts Unlimited. I am a very light user so this plan works best for me. (Works out to about $100 +/- per year) Local Calling Rate 25¢ per min. Outgoing text messages are 10¢ within Canada Outgoint text messages are 15¢ to the US and 35¢ anywhere else in the world Picture messaging is 50¢ per message 100MB of data for 30 days for $10 Data overages are charged at 10¢ per additional 1MB You can either order the phone on-line or (what I did) drop by a Petro Canada gas station and pick up a phone. They have a very limited selection of (3) phones so the choice is easy. Topping up your time is easy. You can do it on-line or (what I do) drop into a Petro Canada gas station and make a payment. The cashier will give you a receipt with a pin number on it. (Don't lose it.) You just call a special phone number and enter the pin number from the receipt and in a few minutes your account is topped up. Very easy and hassle free. https://www.pcmobilitysite.com I have probably given you too much information. So I will stop now. ;)
Malika Fantasy 144625 Report post Posted March 14, 2014 I personally purchase an android touchscreen two years ago from Walt-Mart for about 125 ish It is not the best for online stuff but work well for texting and calling and for its purpose. They give you an activation code that you have to register online and from there you can choose your own phone number, they ask for a name and the like but I lied and put Malika Fantasy and something like 1 Young street. It is a pre-paid phone and you have the "option" of having a forfait-like option I pay 45$ a month, for unlimited receiving calls and early evening and weekend calling, phone number display and voicemail and free texting. If you want data I think it wa an extra 10 a month All anonymous. They do not know my real name
Guest S****r Report post Posted March 14, 2014 That's what I want! I already have a nokia c3 phone that I am happy with. I was stuck with a Rogers contract for three years which finally just ended, and I would like to use the same phone. But.....I don't know....maybe I just have to buy a new phone in order to order anonymous service. Crazy. The monthly plans range from $20/month up to $45/month. I also have a Nokia C3. Great reliable phone. OK.... I'll shut up now. ;)
conquistador 18487 Report post Posted March 15, 2014 Yup, just change the sim card and you're good to go... No need to get a new phone.

Guest S****r Report post Posted March 15, 2014 Okay, I just went to Petro Can and bought the sim card. Haven't put it in yet though because I still have a few days left on the Rogers contract. I am dying to see if my phone is locked or not. I am hoping not, of course. Thanks for all your advice. I will let you know if/when it works!
conquistador 18487 Report post Posted March 15, 2014 It should work, petro Canada uses the rogers network... plug and play, so to speak.
Jabba 18389 Report post Posted March 15, 2014 I've used the PetroCan plan for a few years now. Very convenient. I originally bought the phone plan from 7/11, but they got out of the phone biz. PetroCan picked up the remains & I've been with them ever since. The phones aren't the best, but they git the job done. Texting on my phone really blows, so I may opt for something newer. It may be a function of the quality of the phone or the Rogers network, but every now & then, I get no reception bars. Frustrating. You just have to wait until reception comes alive again.

Kellyxo 11682 Report post Posted March 17, 2014 Hi Just wanted to add a little to this thread as I am not sure that it was all correct :) Petro canada and Rogers are not the same carrier, so if your phone is locked to Rogers it likely will not work with a petro canada SIM card. If you are out of contract Rogers will unlock your phone. I believe they charge 50 dollars. You can also do it yourself if you get the codes. Just google your phone brand and unlock and you will find a lot of sites that can help. Might be easier to pay Rogers the 50 though lol xo Kelly
conquistador 18487 Report post Posted March 18, 2014 Who do they use then?... From what i read they use rogers and from more than one source... But since i don't use petro canada i can't verify 100 percent. I do know that the phone uses the same frequency bands, so ok there.
Kellyxo 11682 Report post Posted March 18, 2014 Petro canada and speakout do run on Rogers network :) But for some reason not all Rogers locked phones can flip to those carriers. It may work, but it doesn't always. I have had phones that would work fine and others that wouldn't let me swap the sim to PC without unlocking. iPhones are especially painful xo Kelly
Guest S****r Report post Posted March 31, 2014 Well, I put in the Sim card and the phone worked! Yay! I requested $35 of service from the Petro can gas attendant, which he sold to me. I went back to the apartment at the time, and it wouldn't work. He had sold me the wrong minutes he had sold me chattr minutes! I went back the next day and talked to the manager, and they would not refund me the money even though it was his mistake, because chatter does not refund any voucher minutes. I was left with no choice but to spend another $35 to get the correct minutes. I grumpily did so. I have now been using the phone for about one week, almost exclusively for texting to arrange appointments. Just checked my balance. Only about three dollars left! Went back online and re-read the information and discovered only incoming texts are free, there is a charge for all outgoing texts! I don't think this is going to work. I feel like I am back at square one. Very frustrated. :-(
conquistador 18487 Report post Posted March 31, 2014 Sorry to hear that, you may want to look at wind for a cheap alternative. As long as the phone is mostly used in the city of Ottawa, the rates can be cheap. But not sure if the phone will work or not, you may have to get a new one. Meaghan McLeod 179664 Report post Posted March 31, 2014 That sucks Summer. Reminds me of when I first bought a Fido phone - same thing. They sold me minutes that would not activate - I had to buy another ticket. Then after talking for like 15 minutes, I had no more time left. Ended up throwing out the phone (didn't realize back then I could unlock the phone and go with another carrier). See if they have another plan for texting. I looked at the Petro-Canada website, and if you are on the anytime plan, you would pay for your outgoing texts. However, if you go with the monthly plan, your outgoing texts are included. Hope this helps!
roamingguy 300292 Report post Posted March 31, 2014 I used Virgin for my cell phone provider when I first got a cell phone. Pay as you go, got a basic phone (yes they do sell fancy smart phones too :-) ), no bells and whistles, just did phone and texting which is all I needed it for at the time No need to register using your real name. And you can get at a Virgin kiosk or Wireless Wave http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/home/index.html RG
