SERB vs KERB

Recommended Posts

Guest g*nch***2

All right so the name of this board is CERB.

Personally, I pronounce it KERB because to me that just makes more sense.

I've met an MA in Ottawa the other day and she pronounced it SERB.

But then again she didn't seem to know how to use the word reckon in a sentence so...

How do you pronounce it? KERB or CERB ?

I am gonna keep saying KERB, just sounds better :)

I see your point.

English is not my first language so to me, being French, SERB is like the people of Serbia!

Additional Comments:

I write it with a C of course, but pronounce K.

Once spotted in public with another lady we know and cherish here on CERB, a dude came to asking if we were from " kerb...or Serb..." I automatically got on the defensive as we did not want to be notice, I said " no I am from Moncton, why do you think I am Serbian?" hahahha

Why would it be Kerb?? This is Canadian Escort Recommendation Board???? Not the Kanadian Escort Recommendation Board?? Just pointing out the obvious I guess??

I ve always known it as Serb.. Introduced to it as Serb and Honestly even if I was to think in Spanish It would be Serb... sometimes when I am in public and dont want to pronunce the entire word I would jus say "Se" or "Si" = C lol at the end it comes all to Serb... lol

Thanks, I never talk about CERB with other people so I guess that explains why I wasn't sure how to pronounce it!

Hold on, not done yet.... :) Is CERB an initialism or an acronym?

Well, really Initialisms are formed using the first letters of a group of words where each letter is pronounced separately or sounded out. CERB falls into this category. Some other examples of initialisms are UFO and NDP.

Acronyms are also formed using the first letters of words. However, they are pronounced as words. NATO and NAFTA are examples of acronyms. LOL....

At the end, like Meg O'Ryan was saying... as long as we keep coming back, it doesn't matter!!!!!

Just saying!! ;)

I pronounce it with a soft C. I've never heard anyone else do otherwise.

I didn't know anyone pronounced it as "kerb." I can't think of a single English word that starts with "ce" where it is pronounced with a hard "k."

However, C is always hard in Tolkien's elven languages, so you could always claim to be a native Sindarin speaker, or something :)

I try to be accepting but I'm not sure we want Tolkien's elves on this board:

"Hail, Lord Elrond, what is it you are browsing?"

"Tis the CERB."

"But ye have been on that too long; the forces of Darkness approach!"

"Apologies; it is a bad hobbit..."

I beg to differ. CERB is an acronym. We say "serb", not "C.E.R.B.".

My apologies for my inner nerd.

Cerberus, cereal, cervix...

I could only think of ceilidh

Has anyone considered pronouncing it as "cherb" as in cello.

I was introduced to the board as serb aka cerb....& have always said it that way. Most of the people I have met on here pronounce it that way too. I think I have only met a couple people who have pronounced it kerb.
