mod 135640 Report post Posted August 23, 2007 VICTORIA - Prostitution is an ethical and legal brain-buster that vexes a lot of people -- from police to politicians to feminists who deplore the idea of men buying women's bodies for their own lustful ends. But Jody Paterson, a former newspaper editor turned crusading advocate for sex-trade workers, looks at it this way: Prostitution isn't going away. So why not run it like a proper business with skilled employees and satisfied customers? Guest BigBoy05 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 For the benefit of society...it should be banned!!! In society there are just more than men and women...like children, mothers, sisters, brothers etc. Therefore I would not like it to be sold in Walmart or in a strip mall. It is like drugs, gambling,...it is an entertainment. It is needed in the society but a behind the curtain thing. It promotes violence and disease, it trigers economic impact, ethical issues, morals, norms. It can be a bad name for the country. Let it stay as is now!!! As such, we dont get the same benefits that the "employed" sheep do. (And yeah, they *buy* their own benefits too -- but their choices are limited.) Believe it or not, we have a freedom -- and also a level of responsibility -- that most salaried/wage-earning employees don't. God help us when prostitution becomes a wage paid or salaried job. That's just legalizing pimping!! It's bad enough that's encroached on every other level of society -- I dread the day it comes to us. ..c..
Guest sighkologic Report post Posted August 30, 2007 Why not legal but self employed? It works in a European setting - at least I think they are self employed in Holland. I don't like the idea of it being a state run salaried system either! If it were legalised, doubtless govt would want an extra cut tho, maybe in the form of licensing/health certification. Either way, you can't blame prostitution for society's ills.
