Abuse from the Self-Righteous

Recommended Posts

Guest S****r

There has been a proliferation of articles in the newspapers in recent months as the debate over the legal status of prostitution in Canada continues. When I notice the articles invite a reader's response, I sometimes join in and add my opinion as an actual practicing escort, and invite the other readers to read more about the life of a real esort in my blog. You might be surprised at the sometimes vitriolic responses that I receive. I include a few here to give you an idea of how the self-righteous try to "slut-shame" us, your highly-esteemed paid companions. These are actual comments written to me personally by the said self-righteous.

User Maree wrote: "Over my dead body would I see women being sexually exploited in my neighborhood, town, condo complex, country. And yes, you are being exploited if you think that's all women are worth. Exploited by men who would write laws to enable women being sold. We want more for women. We know women in the trade will lie to protect themselves. their pets, their families. and lastly to protect the voice in their head that says "I'm not this". "

User David Gibson wrote: "Nice job. The first step in winning control of a social debate in Canada - in which the press are 100% complicit - is to control the vocabulary. Thus, prostitutes are not just Sex Trade Workers, but "Escorts," sort of dog-walkers or day-care workers, with special talents."

User Stephen Saines wrote: "You might do your case well by correcting this: [The public needs to understand it before casting any stones.] Society and individuals can and do make whatever they want of you. Personally, and to be frank, I think less of you. It's nothing to do with the law, it's to do with selling yourself. Were you forced to? No? Then you made a personal choice. I find it unsavoury. Name me one society that doesn't. It's not *naturally programmed* in our genetic/moral make-up. I'm sure Renzetti could explain it all to you after she catches you with her husband. Odd how love, intimacy, sex and power all intertwine so closely..."

And then these two gems from user JP C: "How much do you charge? What are your measurements? Do you supply your own toys? Do you charge a premium if your client doesn't want to use a condom? How much for kinky stuff, like whips, chains, cheesegraters? Do you do three-ways, animals, midgets? Spit or swallow? Born woman or trans? Are you into the rough stuff? Bestiality? Necrophilia? These questions a little too personal?"

I politely and respectfully answered his questions and then he hurled this insult:

"Thank you. Just as disgusting as I imagined. Any sick freak that goes near you without a Hazmat suit deserves all the miseries, germs, viruses, lesions, sores, and everything else that may erupt over their body. I was going to say, just so long as they don't pass it along to their wives, but who are we kidding. The reprehensible trash that would think you're a less than vomit-inducing way to spend an evening would never be able to attract any female with a sense of self-respect, or a sense of smell. And a teacher. Nice. Shows you how usless unions in Ontario are..."

These are the people who insist that the charming respectful men who are my guests are merely degrading me, and yet they are the ones who deliberately make an effort to intentionally degrade me. Nonetheless, their comments keep me going as they simply highlight the level of ignorance that exists in the minds of Joe Public about the world of escorting. But I find it my pleasure to try to bring enlightenment and perhaps a change in the level of respect for the next generation of escorts.

Comments sections are the cesspool of human society. On most boards there is some moderation and courtesy. Newspapers don't bother, they block people who post libelous stuff and let everything else go.

For every reasonable comment there are a hundred that are like those you posted. They aren't even comments, they are just name calling and people yelling at someone. It happens on any subject, be it sports or crime, politics or escorting. The goof that called "dogwalker" probably insults all kinds of other people from his dreary one room apartment.

I think modern society has more and more angry people who are looking to vent on someone/something. Lonely, bored and insecure housewives, guys stuck in crappy deadend jobs, bitter retired people all looking for someone to blame for their predicament. A comments section is a place for them to do so.

I admire you for putting yourself out there and at least trying to have a dialogue.

Their ugly comments are just glimpses into their ugly minds. They're not making objective statements about you, who they don't even know; they're just disgorging repugnant little bits of themselves.

Small people will always attack what they don't understand, and what they fear.

First rule of the fight club: don't read the comments in mainstream media. Did I say fight club? I meant Canadian mainstream media.

These sections are often (read: always) lacking critical thinking and intelligence.

Thank you for at least trying to engage in a debate. Sometimes it is fruitless in those sections though.

You said it better than I ever could and I agree with you completely.

A simple but apt truism, imo anyway, is that you can't use logic and reason with those that are illogical and unreasonable. They will never try to walk in someone else's shoes or try to see anothers point of view if it doesn't conform to theirs. The vast majority of people are unintelligent sheep that follow blindly and unfortunately, they have the loudest voice in our society. They have no idea of what they speak (the perfect example being the one that talks of sores, disease and lesions, etc.) and are likely the same people who refuse to educate their pre-teen and teenage daughters and sons about sex because they have a misguided belief that talking about it will make them promiscuous. Then are shocked when said teenager comes home one day pregnant or in the case of the boy, has gotten a girl pregnant. Back to the comment about disease, he has no clue that legalization of the industry with proper support will drastically reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Honestly, seeing a reputable SP is probably the safest sex there is. A helluva lot safer than trolling the nightclubs, etc. Just sayin.

When they aren't trying to demean sex workers, they are usually talking about how it is illegal. They do this by saying they don't want 'it' legalized. They can never seem to comprehend it (and I mean this also when the entire article they are commenting is on the topic of the fact that prostitution is already legal).

They also can never seem to comprehend choice, or as in the examples above, they seem to give them permission in their minds to cast insults at the sps who do it fully willingly as adults. I don't get it, we are either coerced underage delusional drug addicted victims in need of rescue, then suddenly we are not? hmmmmmm

Ah yes, the thinly disguised misogyny comes out! It's pretty pathetic that these people use ad hominem attacks more often than rational discourse.

And for the record - when I use the "m" word, I am using it with the full understanding that women are also misogynists, not just men. Don't believe me? Listen to the comments women make about other women: "god she looks like such a slut in that outfit", etc.

The first comment is nauseating. Claiming to speak for "All Women" and then denying that they are capable of making personal choices, or have any moral agency whatsoever.

But, of course the possibility that someone could think outside her narrow controlling, sexist world view is too much of logical leap for her brain to handle.
