5 Secrets to Happiness

Recommended Posts

Guest D***el B***e

This is what I think you need for happiness:

Love

Courage

Security

Optimism

Perspective

Health

Purpose

Humor

Spirituality

Proactivity

I did not described each of those because we all have a different idea of them but you will get my point.

The fifth in my mind is:

To know that you can only change what is IN your own control. Do not worry over things that are outside your own releam of control. To do so is such a waste of energy, causing you to catastrophize something that may not be.

When something bad happens, ask yourself, :

Can I change this or change the outcome in anyway?

if not in your control, then you need to let it go.

I'm a super simple guy, so to make my life better I do the following:

Every single day do one thing to make another person happy, and do one thing that makes you happy.

Even if everything else is shit, if I do this each day, I usually sleep well.

My secret to happiness is a bit more ... well, you'll see...

My secret? An absolute refusal to deal with, acknowledge or exacerbate any sort of negativity. This is why I have a short fuse for clients - or anyone else, really - who behave poorly. It's easy to be happy when you're not ankle deep in negativity and stress! So I cut it ruthlessly out of my life. As Lady Sophia said: you can't control everything. But you can control whether or not you stick around. Walking away or asking people to leave is one of the most effective ways to cut off negative/stressful crap. Afterall, we get what we tolerate in life.

Also having the two sweetest and most awesome cats ever is also a pretty great way to be happy. Having pets is comforting and stroking animals (not that way, pervert!) actually lowers blood pressure in both the human and the animal.

I think the secret to happiness is living in the moment. If there's something that's not making you happy right now, stop and do what makes you happy. If it's someone else that's making you unhappy, let them/it go. It's the state of your mind essentially. Whatever happened already - happened, and whatever happens in the future - will happen, but you can't let that ruin/take you away from your present moment.

Great topic! I've always felt that if you want happiness, stop looking for it!

I'm probably closer to Buddhism in what I believe and what it says about happiness in a nutshell is:

-Life is suffering. Old age, health issues, loneliness, etc. are a part of our experience. The sooner you can accept this the better.

-We suffer because we are always wanting something or trying to avoid something happening. Try just observing life rather than controlling it(you can't anyway so why expend huge energy trying?)

-Accept your life. Give up useless desires and focus on living life day by day, moment by moment.

-Follow a moral path, develop wisdom and have compassion for others.

It also warns against excess of drink or sex(I'm not a devout follower :)).

It's easier said than done, I admit. Still, if you have ever met any Buddhists, they seem unflappable.

I just remembered one more thing, don't be so hard on yourself.

Don't let yesterday take up too much of today,

Envy is a waste of time and energy,

Don't let others define you,

Forgive,

Be grateful,

Be happy,

Meditate,

And less is all you really need.

Peace

MG

I wonder why birds can fly anywhere in the world but stay in one place.

Then I ask myself the same question...
