A***** A***** 510 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 Is anyone here experienced with those? I mean I have the el cheapo equipment, but I know there are people out there that are into this kind of thing, with the huge antenas aside of the house. I decided to cut the cable TV, and see what I get. So far, it's not that bad with a cheap set of rabbit ears from walmart. I get CBC, Global, City, and CTV. For the price I can't complain, they are free. Some channels are a bit fuzzy, I don't mind really. It reminds me of living back on the rez:-D I have also seen how to make your own HDTV antena on youtube, I didn't quite know if that was real or not?! I know alot of it depends on where you live, and what the weather is like right?
Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 At my location I get CHCH (a bit fuzzy), CTV, Global (fuzzy), and CBC. Not that there's much on most of the time, but it's cheap entertainment between appointments. I think it depends on location more than weather. A friend lives near the Orange Monkey and it's a dead zone. As for DYI attenae, that's awesome! Gotta figure out if it can realistically be done (by realistically I mean without a welder and saudering gun! LOL) Posted via Mobile Device

bewlayb 7480 Report post Posted May 20, 2010 I got a cheap Phillips set of rabbit ears from Walmart last year. They only cost me $25. They have a built-in signal amplifier and they're rated for HDTV. I can pick up three of Ottawa's local HD channels with this baby. Being digital, the picture quality rivals Rogers or Bell service. The Habs games on CBC-HD have been nothing short of amazing to watch on them. Here are two links you may find interesting: http://www.digitalhome.ca http://www.tvfool.com Both have tons of resources, but the first link has a discussion forum dedicated to the subject of over-the -air TV and the second provides an interactive TV coverage tool that will tell you the strengths and directions of all the TV signals available at your location. According to the tool, there are currently 12 analog stations and 5 digital stations you can expect to receive in Ottawa with a set-top antenna. More are listed if you have a roof top model. All rows shaded green indicate channels that can probably be picked up by a set-top antenna. The first two columns tell you the channel call-sign and channel number respectively. I'll PM you with my interpretation of your results.
A***** A***** 510 Report post Posted May 22, 2010 I didn't last long, lmfao! I got the full cable package hooked back up today, and will take the el cheapo antenna back to the store. Frick, now that was an "interesting" experiment!
