Bodan31 110 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 Wow... Ottawa vs Gatineau! Personaly... I prefer Gatineau! It's so easy to find parking and hotel! Ottawa... It's the parking that kill me and the one way around of the downtown hotel :( Sorry :P

Pink Kitty Escorts 6195 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 There are alot of financial breaks being in Quebec as well, for example you do pay more for your plates and licence.. But your insurance is much less, due to the SAAQ covering alot of liability that isnt covered in Ontario. As well Daycare is much less, some paying as little as 7 dollars a day. With the HST coming on in Ontario, it will likely drive ppl to do more shopping in La belle province as the HST wont be applicable. Cost of buying a home or renting is substantially less than in Ontario. Again with the HST it will become even more attractive.. So there are positives and negatives for both. Getting back to the topic though, alot of ppl find the hotels by the casino to be fairly SP friendly.. And discreet.
Antoine 502 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 I'm surprised no one asked the basic question. Why would you go a longer distance in the Ottawa area rather than hopping over to the Gatineau side? Is it the people? The roads? The french?
PistolPete 61421 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 I'm surprised no one asked the basic question. Why would you go a longer distance in the Ottawa area rather than hopping over to the Gatineau side? Is it the people? The roads? The french? People-No, I find all the people very friendly. Roads-No (The invention of the GPS is such a wonderful tool) French- No, although I do not speak the language (Other then French Kiss:mrgreen:) I get by when I'm over in the Gatineau side. Be quite honest Antoine there is not a lot of SP's on the Gatineau side compared to Ottawa area. I would think the ratio might even be a 6 to 1 ratio based on ad's here and EC, if not higher. Very few post on CL or even know about it or Cerb or EC. Pick up a newspaper..You will be shocked.. lol And also many MPs as well and the milage is way above average. Guest o*****a*****r Report post Posted June 2, 2010 For me I never liked "crossing the bridge" because I always remember getting a ticket, which I fought and won (very unusual for me to fight something, but it was about "being right"), yet in doing so I lost more money then if I just paid the d#mn ticket  This was at least 10 to 12 years ago so I hope things have changed... and yes I've ventured across the bridges many times since, BUT, the memory is still always with me, and I'll never forget that day in that Quebec court with all those "other" Ontario drivers being found "not guilty"... You are probably correct, I was just viewing the numbers from EC and Cerb, not CL or Le Droit. Personally, I just look here and EC, I may view through CL(Not much) but quickly go to the Cowboy Diary. Reddog01 30280 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 (edited) I like going out on the limb here but as a resident in Ottawa I like going to Gatineau for "meetings". I am less "in therory anyway" to bump into someone I know when venturing out with a SP for dinner or a drink. Peachka 4334 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 With the HST coming on in Ontario, it will likely drive ppl to do more shopping in La belle province as the HST wont be applicable. Actually, it will because the HST has been in Quebec for several years. Though, out-of-province shoppers used to be able to apply to get the tax back. Bruce 100 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Here are my two cents on this one. Personally, I'd rather cross the river than lose an opportunity to meet with a fantastic SP. And in many occasions, I found that parking is easier on the Gatineau/Hull side..... -- Bruce
Reese 253 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 I'd assume others would share this grudge...Stubbornly learned over many years, venturing across the river to the SClubs or other. For those without an available car, or who would prefer not to use their personal vehicle and relying upon a timely pickup from Hull/Gat's comparatively tiny taxi fleet. Many Ont. cabbies(if seen) won't risk pickups out-of-prov. either. As said...only grudge. Would also prove very useful and appreciated to some deciding wether to use their vehicle, if more SPs could provide slighty better....umm....locations. Not expecting addresses, obviously, just say ".....within 5 blocks of this main intersection.....". Not simply: Ottawa or West, etc... Perhaps, at least, one less bothersome detail contacted about, for those wondering about a $30 or $100 cab fee included for a pleasurable visit. Many lovely jewels in Hull/Gatineau ! My Canada! = One Canada!......and all of its riches
