A lot of people - surprisingly - don't know about the international Doors Open Day. Loads of countries (and their major cities) participate. And it is exactly what it sounds like.

This year's list of participating venues range from a masonic lodge and a mosque to the embassies of Croatia, Hungary and France, respectively. Museums and the supreme court, historical houses and private clubs.

Check it out: http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/heritage/doorsopen/index_en.html

It's a great way to explore the city, and to explore other cultures. Be sure to read the rules on photographs and backpacks for some venues.

And look it up in your own city as well for those not in Ottawa. Technically when you enter an embassy you are, for all intents and purposes, in that country. When else will you get to hop around the globe without leaving home?

Pretty cool Lindsay. The door to my (dog) house is always open though.
