Guest S***dst*** Report post Posted June 2, 2010 Good day to all of you. Call me curious, or whatever you want really, I've always found more pleasure in making others happy instead of them trying to make me happy. I know what music I like during quiet time. What helps me relax, when I need too, but not everyone enjoys Sarah Brightman and Alicia Keys. So my question is this: What kind of music makes you feel totally relaxed, at ease, helps bring you down from that stressful day etc, etc.. Say you are in your personal fantasy with your SO or heck even a celebrity (because it is a fantasy after all :P) Does the music even play a factory in your fantasy? Oh heck, maybe you could care less about music when you've had a bad day and all you want is a hot, 30 minute bubble bath, room lit by candles and to come out to a hot meal. May seem like strange questions to ask, yes everyone is different, but be honest I'm not here to judge; just to be a better romantic 8)

Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 My personal fail-proof ultimate chill music is Amethystium or Dead Can Dance. It also makes good background music
Lexy Grace 103697 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 It really depends on the mood I'm in. If I'm cleaning I like to listen to R&B that I can dance to while cleaning. To relax I may put on slow jams from the 70-90's. If I'm having my own pitty party I like slow and sappy "I was in love before and where is Mr. Right now", I may put on Taylor Swift. When I'm feeling like I'm the shit and sexy as hell, I dance in front of my mirror to anything slow and upbeat to make sure I still got it! That's usually when I put on BET The Pull Up later in the evening. I also do this to prepare for the private shows that I give. I enjoy music during intimate time but not everyone enjoys my taste and sometimes I can lose myself in the song and another side comes out in me. It's like a lap dance and sex all in one. omehgosh 736 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Great sampling Kyra! I haven't heard of quite of few of those artists (Bonobo & Bajka, Lamb, Cinematic Orchestra) - I really liked those songs though... I'll be adding them to my own playlist I think! My date playlist is over 3 hours long and it's the same one I use at home when I have a glass of wine and relax in the tub. Carrie Moon 68826 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Morning Has Broken - Cat Stevens wow that brings back memories.. I sang that at a friends wedding for her mom's song. It was her favorite. actually listening to a couple of your song choices Kyra made me remember Enigma. I used to listen to them all the time and I think it's time to bring them out again. Here's return to Innocence. and here's sadness I might be the only one I know who doesn't like Alicia Keys.. I like the blues channel on rogers.. 727 if I don't have time to get a CD playlist going.. but like Kyra.. so many I like. I love nova menco, santana, gispy kings etc.. pretty much any spanish guitar/cuban music. For getting in the party mood.. it's retro 80's for sure.. my university days :) and for partying.. rock n roll baby! AC/DC! some of my favs.. Marving Gaye. Got to Give it up part I scissor sisters i don't feel like dancing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwZq2-bG4Ig (this one has the lyrics so sing along) one of my all time favs jason mraz im yours it was playing the canadian tire yesterday while I was shopping and I sang along.. practically everyone I saw in the aisles were singing it too! Kyra.Graves 23779 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Carrie I have some Enigma on my playlist as well, Silent Warrior is one of my favorites. I'm not a big Alicia Keys fan either, I don't feel the need to change the song if she comes on but I have never felt the need to DL any of her songs (let alone pay for one  ) Omegosh - if you liked those be sure to check out some of their other works, Flutter by Bonobo is one of my favorites to play when I'm walking down the city streets, the whole song just sounds like movement. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtJlKrRn3ms Also you might want to look up Rebirth of Cool, it's an older series of compilation CDs that have some really great artists on it. My favorite of the series is Rebirth of Cool Phive which includes the following... Friendly Pressure - Jhelisa Kruder & Dorfmeister - Deep Shit Parts 1 & 2 Freakpower - Turn On, Tune In, Find Joy as well as many of the artists I previously mentioned. Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Hey, I found some cool new music thanks to all these links! And I just have to shill my favorite chill band - Amethystium. They're not well known, but if you like Enigma, you'll enjoy this. And Dead Can Dance. Don't be put off by the name! It's chilled out with a hint of middle eastern style vocals. My ultimate hippy music :-) And how could I have almost forgotten Deep Forest? They take samples of cultural and tribal music and remix them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqoGElJmvjE&feature=related

Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Never heard them, but I'll youtube it now  Not bad. I think I have heard of them before! A bit too girly for my everyday listening tastes, but I think I found a new favorite girly music band!
Carrie Moon 68826 Report post Posted June 3, 2010 Carrie I have some Enigma on my playlist as well, Silent Warrior is one of my favorites. Thanks Kyra:) I like this one but people are claiming it's not enigma underneath it.. It sounds familar to me! Guest C****** K***e Report post Posted June 4, 2010 Seeing as how I'm a huge music nerd, I feel no shame in admitting my relax music is usually classical. I love Elgar's Enigma Variations (all this talk of Enigma reminded me!) and pretty much anything by Beethoven, especially the late piano sonatas. They just recharge me. In popular music, Stars is a good band for relaxing. For a little pick-me-up, I usually go for Metric or Gogol Bordello.
omehgosh 736 Report post Posted June 4, 2010 Thanks Kyra, I think I will try that compilation (I've bought a few CDs for particular songs and ended up disappointed with the other tracks), I think a "best of" might be safer bet for me. Flutter is great, it totally has a movement feel - even one of the comments on youtube mentions downhill skiing. That Friendly Pressure reminded a lot of Me'Shell - if she's not already in your playlist, I'd guess she has some stuff you'd like. You should check out this streaming radio: http://somafm.com/listen/ if you get a chance, I think you might like it. Lindsay - I think you might really like Peter Gabriel's "Last Temptation of Christ" (the score for the movie of the same name)... It's a little dark (you might not want to fall asleep listening to it), but it's really, very good.

Flutter is actually used as one of the downhill songs in the SSX on Tour games,so that is likely where the reference came from. Between the Lines was in Californication. :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonobo_(musician)#Songs_appearances I like some of Me'Shells music but it doesn't have the same acid jazz feel that I enjoy in the Jhelisa track. Soma is great, I'm a Secret Agent and Groove Salad kind of gal. :) I also listen to Shoutcast a lot, it's all about variety (and free listening!) It sounds like we have a lot of the same taste, cheers sir! I raise my glass to you!
Naughty_Nadia 100 Report post Posted June 5, 2010 I'm weird, in that what most people think of as "chill" music or whatever, actually stresses me out! When I want to relax I usually throw on something really intense. Like, if I put on some industrial or metal or something, I find the stress just melts away with it, instead of when I try and fight it by putting on music that doesn't match my mood. Though when other people are around and they want something more relaxing (or when I'm seeing a client or something) I'll usually go with Trip Hop. DJ Shadow has some great stuff, Portishead and Collide are amazing. :)
