Their definition of an escort is: "An escort is a person who charges or receives a fee for the following services: Acting as a date Providing personal companionship for a limited period of time" The annual license fee is $263, and of course you end up with a public record of what you do. http://www.winnipeg.ca/cms/license_branch/business_licenses/escort.stm I'm not sure how everyone feels about this .. but it makes me nervous. Smirk 1920 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 I know its not illegal - but its a public record. For some of us this has been a well kept secret from our family, friends and other occupations. My understanding is that there are Canadian escorts, who have been identified as such when trying to cross to the United States and have been denied entry. Miss Jessica Lee 43328 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 it doesn't appear to be any different from licencing in any other city across Canada. it's not a licence to sell sex, it's a licence to be a companion or date. Therefore the city is not profiting from anything illegal, they are providing licencing (and therefore regulation and supervision) of a particular industry. The client of this licensed companion is breaking no laws, provided he doesn't pay for sexual services. I was gonna get a John's license..................... but apparently that isn't readily available at the moment at any college, university, Sussex Drive or any education center ? ;) No tuition this year ! ...........................
