capitalman 3861 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Variety is the spice of life, and the fact that everyone is different really makes life interesting. However, there are some VERY unusual people around town and I seem to see them quite often. Who do you see and know? Disco dancing walker A short woman with short blonde hair, usually seen walking along Bank Street (near Billings bridge). She wears shades and earphones and walks like she's dancing...strutting her stuff like she's trying out for Saturday Night Fever! Boxer man (runner) If you run or bike down the canal you'll know Boxer man. He's a slim middle aged guy, boxes as he runs.....but he's not really practicing boxing, he's really just doing weird things with his arms. The Mexican You all know him, the black mexican guy down in the market! Super loud and bright Mexican clothes and hats and sometimes a ghetto blaster! Meg O'Ryan 266444 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Raquette man (I know, French spelling) on the market. Thinks he is a talented busker as he stands somewhat still holding two tennis raquettes and moves only when someone approaches. PLEASE lady on the market. Haven't seen her yet this year. Tiny little thing who walks around with her hand held out saying "please, please, please". Dapper old man on the market. Must be about 100; dresses in a mis-matched suit, hat and cane and openly oggles the young ladies.

Kate von Katz 49953 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 An interesting bit of food for thought: Those people who display uncharacteristically low concern for what others think of them are often labelled "crazy". Something tells me they know a lot more about what life is about than we do. Boxer Guy: I saw him for the first time a couple months ago. He even had boxer's trunks on and his hands taped. Now we just need to plot his route, and find a Rocky Balboa look-alike.... ;-) Posted via Mobile Device

Old Dog 179138 Report post Posted July 17, 2010 I work on Laurier at Metcalfe.... just around the main branch of the public library. Everyday we see a wide and varied cast of characters. 1. The multicolored guy: Gaunt Haitian guy in home made shoes (tape and plastic bags) and a home made suit (matching pants and shirt) made out of some fuzzy multi coloured striped material. Usually seen carrying a sign about the end of the world. A couple of winters ago I felt so bad for him, I offered to take him up to Zellers to buy him some boots. He refused saying that the good lord would provide. 2. Cigarette butt lady: Tiny little thing that collects cigarette butts from around the library when she is not composing letters to Stephen Harper. Wears a powder blue parka and toque year round (yes, even last week when it was a bajillion degrees outside.) Makeup is unique, looks like she was a fluffer girl in 1950s porn. 3. Pigeon man: Has the afternoon shift outside the public library right under the book deposit slots. Has a sign decrying "hobophobia" and is usually found in the company of pigeons... lots of them. 4. Angry Bandana man: Bearded ill tempered man who has stations up and down Metcalfe from Laurier up to Albert. Not really sure whether he has the success level of other panhandlers; normally people will walk a wide circle around him or cross the street to avoid him. Guest S***dst*** Report post Posted July 18, 2010 4. Angry Bandana man: Bearded ill tempered man who has stations up and down Metcalfe from Laurier up to Albert. Not really sure whether he has the success level of other panhandlers; normally people will walk a wide circle around him or cross the street to avoid him. I seriously doubt it. The sun did an article on one of the more successful hobo's in ottawa, named Mark, earlier this year. Mark rides around on his bicycle. You may have encountered Mark yourself and know of whom who they speak. Marks way of panhandling is unique to most hobos. He always remains polite and vigilant and ends his interactions with "god bless you" One person he approached told him to "f**k off" and he simply smiled and said god bless you. Before walking away he pointed out that the mans back tire was almost bald, in thanks, the man gave him $5. He makes 50-60k a year panhandling (jeeze eh) and stays at a buddies house 2-3 days a week helping him, since he's physically disabled, in exchange for this time there. Gizmo 100 Report post Posted July 18, 2010 The White Knight: In Bells Corners, there is a guy dressed in all white pants, shoes hoodie sweater, sometmes a dust mask and parasol, who walks up and down Richmond and Robertson. Doesn't mater the time of year, I've seen him walking his beat in winter and summer. I should really follow him some day to see exactly where he stops to turn around. The King: A very large man dressed as Vegas era Elvis. Normally this isn't so out of the ordinary but he rides a dirt bike all over town. I've seen him on Hunt Club, Ogilvie, the parkway, so I don't think he has a regular route. The most WTF thing you can see on the road is a blur of white and sequence pass by at 100+ km/h. Nicolette Vaughn 294340 Report post Posted July 19, 2010 I was about to mention her, but you beat me to it. I haven't seen her in about 10 years, I often wondered what happened to her. About 10 years ago I had a friend who worked in a store on Bank St. and she'd always walk by. My friend told me that one year one of her co-workers dressed up as her for Halloween. :) My first apartment as a student was above the Royal Oak on Bank St and I'd often see her walking past the Hartmans grocery store. She didn't look homeless but I just found her odd especially with that mask. The naive part of me back then thought maybe she was OCD or had some sort of breathing problem. I wouldn't think that now. LOL.
